A 60-year old pastor of Lukango Church of God in Kammengo, Mpigi district is in police custody over defilement.
Peter Bananiye is alleged to have defiled a 7-year-old pupil of Ggoli Primary School.
The girl said while in a market at Kammengo on Thursday evening, the cunning pastor asked her to help him carry his luggage home and he would pay her sh3,000. However they bypassed his home and the pastor took her to a cassava plantation where he defiled her.
The girl said he threatened to strangle her if she reported him to anyone.
When he was done with her he told her to run home, but she was too weak and kept falling on the way. She was rescued by Angella Nakigozi, one of her father's tenants who saw her bleeding and rushed her to a clinic before she was taken to police.
The girl told the Police she could identify the suspect from the way he was dressed. When the Police took her to the crime scene and the market she identified the pastor. His trousers were also found to have thorns that he had picked from the garden.
Bananiye however claimed the girl had run off crying when he bypassed their home. He said he had only gone to the market to buy food for a patient .
The Kammengo police station chief, Ivon Kyomuhendo, said Bananiye had questions to answer according to the statement he made. She said investigations were ongoing as the suspect remains in custody.
The pastor was slated to give a surmon over the weekend where some of his church sponsors were expected to attend.
He said if he is found guilty may the Lord strike him dead in jail.
