Quebec woman has acid thrown on her face by boyfriend

Quebec is 90% Christian. And the woman has a Christian last name.

MONTREAL - A man who allegedly threw acid at his girlfriend following a domestic dispute appeared in court today for a bail hearing that was later postponed.

Twenty-seven-year-old Nicolas Stefanatos was in court near Montreal for a bail hearing after allegedly dousing his girlfriend, Tanya St-Arnauld, with a corrosive cleaning product.

Police believe they have identified the substance used in the alleged attack but are awaiting laboratory results to release specifics.

"It's a house cleaning product, a bit like Drano or something," said Const. Martin Simard of the Longueuil police.

The bail hearing was postponed to Sept. 12. Stefanatos faces three charges including aggravated assault, for which the maximum sentence is 14 years.

St-Arnauld is at a Montreal hospital with burns covering 70 per cent of her body. Her face is wrapped in bandages. She has been woken from a medically induced coma and has been able to communicate to some members of her family.

Her injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Police say that after the couple spent an evening with friends, a dispute erupted between Stefanatos and St-Arnauld.

She was allegedly first splattered in ketchup and mustard, then she left the couple's apartment for a few minutes to see friends. The more serious attack allegedly occurred upon her return.

Investigators plan speak to St-Arnauld next week.

Texas girl who was gang raped causes residents to say she was responsible for the attack

Texas is said to be the 'buckle' of the Bible belt and is 80% Christian. The girl is also hispanic (whom 90% are Christian). Now imagine if this were Muslims saying the girl was responsible because of how she dressed or acted.

Now we've covered stories like this before, where the woman is blamed for getting what she deserved. Yeah and these DON'T come form Muslim countries, but Christian ones. See here:

LIBERTY, Texas — Jurors on Thursday convicted a man of taking part in the repeated sexual assaulting a Texas middle school student and sentenced him to 99 years in prison.

Eric McGowen wasn’t in court when jurors found him guilty of aggravated sexual assault of a child or later when they returned with the sentence, which also included a $10,000 fine. The 20-year-old had been free on bail and he skipped out during a break in proceedings Wednesday, the first day of testimony.

The judge issued an arrest warrant for McGowen Wednesday and allowed testimony to resume Thursday. Jurors returned with the guilty verdict after deliberating for about 20 minutes. Then, after brief court proceedings on his punishment, they decided his sentence in less than 30 minutes.

Prosecutors say the girl, who was 11 years old at the time, was sexually assaulted on at least five occasions from mid-September through early December of 2010 by 20 men and boys from her town, Cleveland, which is about 45 miles northeast of Houston. Police began investigating after one of the girl’s classmates told a teacher he saw video of her being sexually assaulted in an abandoned trailer.
All six of the juveniles and two of the 14 adults charged in the case pleaded guilty. McGowen was the first defendant to stand trial. He faced a minimum sentence of 25 years prison and a maximum of life.

After prosecutors concluded their case Thursday following the testimony of nearly a dozen witnesses over a day and a half, defense attorney Matthew Poston rested his case without presenting any witnesses or evidence.

McGowen was in court Wednesday when the girl, now 13, spoke about her ordeal. The girl was not in court Thursday.

Testifying using a pseudonym, she told jurors about an encounter in October 2010 and one the following month in which she said McGowen and several other men and boys took turns sexually assaulting her while recording the encounters on video.

The girl briefly broke down in tears as jurors were shown a few minutes of video of the alleged sexual assault in October 2010.

She described another encounter that November that started in a different Cleveland home and continued at a nearby abandoned trailer. She told jurors that McGowen assaulted her with a beer bottle during that incident.

Like McGowen, most of the remaining 11 defendants in the case face charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child. Four face a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child.
The two men who pleaded guilty and one of the juveniles, who has since turned 18, also testified against McGowen. The two men are serving 15-year prison terms while the juveniles in the case each received suspended seven-year prison terms.

The case sparked outrage in Cleveland, and early on, some residents suggested the girl was partly responsible because they say she wore makeup, looked older than her age and wasn’t properly supervised by her parents, drawing widespread condemnation.

The case also has been complicated by a belief among many in the predominantly black neighborhood where several of the suspects live that the arrests were racially motivated. All of the suspects are black, while the girl is Hispanic.

Atlanta Pastor arrested for infecting women with HIV

Pastor Craig Lamar Davis looks like any other healthy, happy, heterosexual pastor with good family values. He was once a preacher at the Full Gospel Baptist Church in Atlanta and a pillar of leadership in the community. Also, like a lot of men at the front of the church, the pastor had a thing for the ladies.

Another thing you might want to know about Davis, according to authorities, is that the pastor is HIV positive. He also didn’t seem to care who else became HIV positive after he slept with them.
The pastor was arrested for reckless conduct after police found that he was sleeping with several women with whom he was not married. A woman by the name of Ronita McAfee says that she met the pastor on Facebook and began sleeping with him.

Ronita says that she became concerned when one of the pastor’s ex-girlfriends called her to say that she had HIV. She claims that the pastor then counseled her (presumably leaning on the word of the good “lawud”) and told her to get tested. Davis then says that she noticed that the pastor himself was not interested in getting tested, even though she had also contracted HIV. This is what prompted her to seek out a warrant for his arrest.

Ronita is, by our best guess, the first person to file for the arrest of someone who was found to maliciously spread HIV in Clayton, County, GA. When the investigation began, another woman in the church leadership stepped forward with her confession about interacting with Davis. The woman even claimed that she’d been celibate for 15 years before meeting him. She too is HIV positive.

Christian congressman: "Legitimate rape" is perfectly fine

Now this has been in the news quite a while. Imagine if he were Muslim? Oh wait, its usually these Christians who make such ridiculous claims.
There's dozens of articles on this, so no need to post a specific one. Here's a wiki page on it, and full of sources, so its a reliable article:

Christian girl from Illinois was kept as sex slave for two years

Illinois is 75% Christian, and the Bible is full of sexual slavery. And no where in the Bible does it ever speak of being kind or freeing slaves (Paul himself said slaves should submit to their masters even if they're harsh)

The girl, who was 15 when she disappeared in 2010, said she was held hostage and repeatedly raped. She also became pregnant by her captor, she told police. A 24-year-old man was arrested in the case.
A teenage girl reported missing more than two years ago escaped from a home in southwestern Illinois where she said she was held captive and repeatedly sexually assaulted, police said Thursday.
Police in Washington Park, a village next to East St. Louis, said the girl reported that she was raped by her captor, got pregnant and had a baby.

In April 2010, St. Louis, Mo., police listed the girl as a missing or runaway juvenile. She was 15 when she disappeared.

She escaped from the home in Washington Park earlier this week and went to police, saying her child was still in the house.

About two dozen members of a SWAT team wearing helmets and body armor swarmed the home Thursday afternoon with their assault rifles drawn. They recovered the child and arrested a 24-year-old man.

One of the officers carried the child — apparently unharmed — in his arms, and a white sheet was draped over the child's head to conceal the toddler's identity. The child was taken away in a waiting ambulance.

Washington Park Police Chief David Clark said it appears the man's mother assisted in the crime. She was also taken into custody. Police would not identify either of them by name because they had not been charged as of Thursday evening.

The teen told police she was held against her will and was beaten and sexually assaulted almost every day. She reported trying to escape several times but told police that her captor chased her down each time and forced her back to the home at gunpoint.

She told police she was able to escape this week with the help of a relative.

Police said the teen also told them she was forced by the man and his mother to give a false name in medical records during her pregnancy and when the child was born.

A neighbor, Lakeitha Smith, told several local TV stations that she saw the girl from time to time outside the house and never witnessed anything that would raise concern.

"I used to see her come out of the house, back and forth," Smith said. "I didn't think she was being held hostage in the house."

Christian cop on trial for murdering his third wife, and forcing his fourth wife to lie to investigators

We know this man is a Christian because the fourth wife consulted a Pastor. And Illinois is 75% Christian as well.

JOLIET, Ill. (AP) - A pastor told jurors Thursday at Drew Peterson's murder trial that the former suburban Chicago police officer's fourth wife once tearfully recounted to him how her husband mysteriously disappeared from their home around the time of his third wife's death, then later coached her about how to lie to investigators.

The Rev. Neil Schori, offering the most dramatic testimony yet at Peterson's trial, told jurors about Stacy Peterson's description of events surrounding Kathleen Savio's March 2004 death. Prosecutors say Drew Peterson killed the 40-year-old Savio because he feared a settlement after their divorce would ruin him. Peterson, 58, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.
Peterson's fourth wife spoke to Schori - a counseling minister at Westbrook Christian Church in Bolingbrook at the time - on Aug. 31, 2007, just months before she vanished. Her disappearance prompted authorities to re-examine Savio's death, which was initially found to be the result of an accidental slip in her bathtub.
"She was very scared," Schori said about Stacy Peterson.
The slender, blond 23-year-old pulled her legs up and hugged her knees nervously as she told him Drew Peterson warned her police would approach her to interview her and coached her for hours about how she should lie to them.
She did lie to investigators, he said, after Savio's body was found in a dry bathtub at her home just blocks from the Petersons' house. Schori didn't go into detail about the lies, but they apparently involved Peterson's whereabouts.
Earlier in the trial, witnesses testified that investigators let Drew Peterson sit in on an interview with Stacy Peterson. He sat next to his visibly shaken wife, his arm around her shoulder and hand on her knee, and corrected at least one of her answers, according to those witnesses.
Schori was one of the last witnesses for prosecutors, who said they expect to rest their four-week presentation of evidence on Friday. Prosecutors have called about 30 witnesses in a challenging case where a lack of physical evidence has led them to rely on hearsay testimony such as Schori's. Hearsay, or statements not based on the direct knowledge of a witness, usually is not admissible in court, but Illinois passed a law in the wake of the Peterson case that allows it in certain circumstances.
Schori testified that Stacy Peterson told him how she and Drew Peterson had gone to bed together the night before Savio's body was found but that she woke up in the middle of the night with him no longer by her side. She searched the house and called her husband's cellphone, but no one answered.
He didn't reappear until dawn.
"She saw him standing near the washer and dryer ... dressed in all black and carrying a bag," Schori told jurors. "She said that he removed his clothing and took the content of the bag and put all of that into the washing machine."
Later, she peeked in the washer. What she saw, Schori said, were women's clothes that weren't hers.
Before Schori took the stand, prosecutors told Judge Edward Burmila that Schori could also testify that Drew Peterson bragged to his fourth wife about committing "the perfect murder." The judge barred that testimony on the grounds that it was privileged communication between husband and wife.
Prosecutors suspect Drew Peterson killed Stacy Peterson because she knew too much about Savio's death, though he has never been charged and her body has never been found. Drew Peterson contends she ran off with another man and is still alive.
The judge has prohibited prosecutors from mentioning Stacy Peterson's disappearance to jurors.
Defense attorney Joe Lopez pressed Schori about why he didn't go to authorities or try to stop Stacy Peterson from going home to her allegedly menacing husband.
"You didn't stop her because you didn't believe her," Lopez said.
"Not true," Schori shot back. He said Stacy Peterson had asked him not to tell anyone what she had said and that he felt obliged to adhere to her wishes.
Lopez also asked why Schori decided to meet Stacy Peterson at a coffee shop rather than in private, blurting at him, "You knew that she was trying to seduce you!" Schori denied that and said he normally met in public with those he was counseling.
Several spectators gasped at the question, prompting an admonishment from Judge Burmila, who said he didn't want observers' reactions to influence jurors.
After prosecutors rest, defense attorneys will have a chance to present their case. They could also choose not to call any witnesses and argue before jurors that prosecutors failed to prove the murder charge.

A one hundred year old fatwa from Al Azher condemning the murders of innocent Armenians

I recently came across an extremely significant Islamic document that severely criticizes Turks for using religion as a cover to killing Armenian Christians.

This rarely seen document is a Fatwa or religious decree issued in May 1909 by Grand Sheikh Salim al-Bishri of Egypt, condemning Turkish Muslims for massacring 30,000 Armenians in Adana, a major city in the Ottoman Empire.

Sheikh al-Bishri of Al-Azhar Mosque, leader of the Muslim world’s preeminent center of Islamic studies in Cairo, issued this Fatwa in order to counter the decree issued in April 1909 by a Turkish Mufti (religious leader), urging Turks to kill Armenians because “they were against Muslims and God.”
Upon seeing a passing reference to the Egyptian fatwa on the internet, I contacted Prof. Mohammed Rifaat al-Emam, an expert on Armenian history, whom I had met during a recent visit to Cairo. Dr. al-Emam kindly sent me the original Arabic text of this important religious document, excerpts of which are presented below in English translation for the first time:

“We have seen in local newspapers agonizing news and vile reports about Muslims of some Anatolian provinces of the Ottoman Empire attacking Christians and killing them brutally. We could not believe these reports and hoped that they were false, because Islam forbids aggression, oppression, bloodshed, and harming human beings -- Muslims, Christians and Jews alike.

Oh Muslims living in that region and elsewhere beware of actions prohibited by Allah in His Sharia [Islamic law] and spare the blood that Allah prohibited to spill and do not transgress on anyone since Allah does not like aggressors…

Your duty towards those who are allied with you, who entrusted their safety to you and who reside among you and next to you from Ahlul Dhimma [Jewish and Christian minorities protected under Islam], as imposed by Allah, is to uplift them as you would uplift yourselves, prevent them from what you prevent yourselves and your kinsfolk, make your strength their strength, make pride and prosperity out of your strength, and protect their monasteries and churches the way you protect your mosques and temples.

Whoever abuses their women, draws the sword on them, and oppresses them contradicts Muslims’ pledge to Allah, which is the obligation of Muslims.

Be informed that if what the public is hearing is true, then you have angered your Allah and did not satisfy your Prophet and the Sharia. You kept your Muslim brothers away from their religion, whose rejection became hideous by this heinous act, violating what is forbidden, and you let loose tongues of people ignorant of your religion to pronounce hideous words against all Muslims.

Then, hear some of what your Prophet said about conditions similar to what you are in today. He said: ‘He who kills an allied person [person joined with Islam by an agreement in order to give help and support] will not smell the fragrance of Paradise and if he smells it, that would be at a distance of 40 years.’ He also said: ‘A person who rejects a dhimmi [a person from Jewish and Christian minorities] will be whipped with flagella of fire on Judgment Day.’”

This document makes it amply clear that the Armenian massacres of 1909 and the subsequent Genocide of 1915 were not the result of religious conflict between Muslim Turks and Christian Armenians. The Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar rightly condemned the Turks for the mass murder of Armenians, which was committed for racist Pan-Turkic -- not Pan-Islamic -- reasons, along with the intent of capturing Armenian lands and properties. The various Fatwas issued by Turkish Muftis (clerics) were intended to provoke fanatical Turkish mobs to attack and massacre innocent Armenians.

Sheikh al-Bishri’s 1909 Fatwa was further reinforced by the decree issued in 1917 by Al-Husayn Ibn Ali, the Sharif of Mecca, ordering all Muslims to defend Armenians and “provide everything they might need … because they are the Protected People of the Muslims about whom the Prophet Muhammad said: ‘Whoever takes from them even a rope, I will be his adversary on the day of Judgment.’”

In 2009, when Turkish Prime Minister Rejeb Erdogan stated that “Muslims don’t commit genocide,” he was only partly right. He should have said: “Good Muslims don’t commit genocide.” The leaders of the Young Turk Party who masterminded the Armenian Genocide in 1915 were not faithful Muslims, judging by the teachings of the Quran -- the Holy Book of Islam. They were simply criminals who used Islam as a convenient cover to carry out mass murder. The compassionate Fatwa of the Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar still rings true today as the Muslim world celebrates the end of Ramadhan.

Pastor from Zimbabwe arrested for raping two women

Ronald Mambohautumwi known as Prophet Ronny and leader of the Crossover Ministries Church, Prophet was on Friday arrested by police in Marondera and is now facing charges of raping two women.

However, more women are believed to have fallen for his devious schemes.

It is alleged that Prophet Ronny used his Facebook account to stalk and eventually lure several women from his congregation, who were friends with him on the social networking site, to his Landy Park home in Marondera.

The women would then stay at the house for several days while undergoing “spiritual counselling and prayer sessions.”

During the counselling sessions, which were conducted in the man of the cloth’s bedroom, it is said Prophet Ronny would deceive the women into believing that it was their prophetic calling to sleep with him and eventually marry him in six months’ time.

Mashonaland East police spokesperson Inspector Bulisani Bhebhe confirmed the arrest, saying that two women, from Harare and Chitungwiza, reported the case to police after becoming suspicious.
“On Friday we arrested the leader of the Crossover Ministries Church, Ronald Mambohautumwi, and charged him with two counts of rape,” said Insp Bhebhe.

“We understand that between June and July the two victims joined Crossover Ministries via Facebook and became full members of the church.

“Prophet Ronny, on different occasions, invited the women to his house in Marondera for prophetic prayer sessions and counselling.

“It was during these prayer sessions that he would invite these women to his bedroom and behind locked doors tell them of their prophetic calling to be married to him in six months. He would then lure them into being intimate with him.

“We have him in custody and expect him to appear in court soon.” One of the alleged victims told our correspondent how she fell into the churchman’s schemes. She said Prophet Ronny invited her to his house in Marondera via Facebook after stalking her for several months on the social networking site.

“A friend invited me to that church and I went there and during a prayer session the prophet came to me and said there was a calling upon my life but he could not disclose it in front of the whole congregation,” said the 28-year-old woman.

“After I had joined the church on Facebook he started sending messages in my inbox inviting me to his house in Marondera to receive the prophetic message he had predicted earlier during our first encounter.

“At the house he invited me to his bedroom at around midnight then he told me that the ‘Lord’ had revealed to him that I had been favoured to be his wife in the next six months.

“He then asked me to be intimate with him claiming that we were already spiritually married since his prophesy had confirmed me as his future wife. We slept together that night and I left the following day.

“I became suspicious after telling a friend of mine who told me stories of other women from the church who had confided in her that they had also fallen into a similar trap. After confronting him he became aggressive.”

Zimbabwe has seen an upsurge in the emergence of self-proclaimed prophets over the past three years – Sunday Mail.

California Pastor arrested for sexually abusing two young girls

Rialto police have arrested a Compton church pastor suspected of molesting two Rialto girls for several years, one of whom was 11 years old when the alleged sexual abuse began.
Anthony Lavon Smith, 47, of Rialto was taken into custody at Carter High School about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday while he was picking up a family friend, police Capt. Randy DeAnda said. "We do believe that there are other victims at his church, and we'll be contacting the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department detective bureau to let them know about our investigation," DeAnda said. Smith has been a pastor at Jericho Baptist Assembly in Compton since April 2001, following in the footsteps of his father, Willie L. Smith, who also preached at the church, according to the church's website. Police say one of the alleged victims, now 29 years old, was 17 when she was last molested. She is a relative of Smith who now lives in a different state, DeAnda said. Police say the other alleged victim, now 17, was 11 when she was first molested. Both lived in Rialto and were members of Smith's church at the time of the incidents, police said. Rialto Unified School District officials said that none of the incidents occurred at Carter High School. But one of the alleged victims did attend a Rialto school. "Rialto Police Department collaborated with one of our students and the parent to apprehend the suspect," said district spokeswoman Syeda Jafri.

Members of Smith's family could not be reached for comment. Charlotte Jackson, who identified herself during a phone interview as Smith's former wife, declined comment. Rialto investigators said they are unaware if Smith participated in any Inland Empire organizations that put him in contact with children. He was booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on suspicion of committing lewd and lascivious acts with a child, as well as sex abuse and assault charges, DeAnda said. He was being held in lieu of $350,000 bail. In addition to his work with the church, Smith also released a CD in 2003 under the Illinois-based record label Godspoke Records called "Came Out Saved."

Louisiana Pastor arrested for molesting several teen girls

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -  A Shreveport pastor has been arrested, accused of molesting several teenage girls.

The Shreveport Police Department is charging Andrea Lewis with three counts of molestation of a juvenile. Lewis is pastor of Act on Faith Ministries, a nondenominational church located in the 2100 block of Hollywood Avenue.

Nearly two decades after the onset of a relationship, a Shreveport woman has come forward to police about a sexual relationship she had with her pastor, while she was only 13-years-old. In a tearful interview with KSLA News 12, a woman who claims Lewis took advantage of her recounts how the inappropriate relationship started and why she decided to come forward years later.
"I was deceived, you know. He used God and he used music, and those were the two most important things in my life at the time," said the alleged victim.

At the age of 13 the unnamed victim said she had high hopes of one day singing professionally and when one of the men she trusted the most, her pastor, promised her that dream she said it was easy to fall in love. The victim says she and Lewis were a couple even though she was only 13-years-old and he was nearly 40.

"It kinda crossed my mind that I would get in trouble if they found out, and that he would get in trouble if they found out, but he told me it was alright as long as I didn't tell anybody," said the alleged victim.

The woman KSLA News 12 spoke with said when Lewis first made an advance and kissed her, she found it awkward, and decided to speak with Lewis only over the phone. She said that arrangement did not last long. "And then when we met up again that when we actually had sex."
The alleged victim says she continued in that relationship until she was 24-years-old but she claims, in that time, it was not all fun and romance. She says it ended after she realized what she probably always knew in the back of her mind. The woman says she felt that she was not the only young girl the pastor may have been abusing.

Lewis is currently behind bars at the Caddo Correctional Center on $300,000 bond.

Detectives are still investigating this case and they urge any other potential victims of Lewis to come forward.

Nigerian Pastor arrested for impregnating his own daughter, TWICE

Pastor Emmanuel Alex who is in charge of a new generation church in Egan, a Lagos suburb, has been arrested by the police for impregnating his 15-year-old daughter, not once but two times. Pastor Emmanuel’s daughter was said to have delivered two babies for him within two years.

This happened after the girl’s mother, the
pastor’s wife, died. They were all living in the same apartment at 33, Pastor Olusola Street, Agric, Egan, Lagos. Residents of the area said the Pastor Emmanuel’s nine children were not allowed to go to school or socialise with their neighbours and when he wanted to go out, he locked them inside his two-bedroom flat. His arrest was made possible by a sting operation by two non-governmental organizations in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, WAPA, Alausa, Ikeja. Pennsylvania Pastor arrested for beating and threatening his daughter with a gun

A Beaver County pastor is facing charges that he assaulted his grown daughter during a family fight Thursday morning in Raccoon Creek State Park, state police said.

The Rev. Darrell Cashdollar, 59, was carrying a gun in a wooded area of the park, so rangers called state police to the scene. Police monitored the area with helicopters and set up a perimeter until the incident de-escalated.

Park officers arrested the New Brighton man on charges of simple assault and harassment, rangers said.

There are no charges yet filed associated with the .38-caliber revolver he was carrying, said rangers. Rev. Cashdollar was a part-time deputy at the Beaver County sheriff's office more than 25 years ago, the sheriff said. Though he had a legal gun permit, the sheriff said the permit was now revoked and Rev. Cashdollar will not be allowed to carry the revolver anymore.

Rev. Cashdollar's wife, Carol Cashdollar, also was present at the scene, but rangers said the charges only involve his adult daughter Tiffany, whose last name was unknown. Rangers said Tiffany had visible marks on her neck when her father was arrested and that she was taken to the hospital for observation.

The pastor, who preaches at the Paris Church of the Nazarene in Burgettstown, Washington County, was taken to Beaver County jail Thursday night, rangers said.
The investigation is continuing under Department of Conservation and Natural Resources park rangers.

Colombian woman has acid poured on her face by boyfriend

Colombia is 90% Christian.

BOGOTA, Colombia – Every glance at a mirror transports Consuelo Cordoba to the moment when her boyfriend doused her with a skin-searing acid that obliterated her face, leaving her with gruesome wounds that will never heal.

The chemical burned off an ear, melted an eye, ate through her lower face and ruined her teeth. She now wears a skin-tight elastic mask, breathes through a straw-like tube that protrudes from her nose and walks the streets looking “like a monster,” as she put it.

“I would like to go to sleep today and not wake up tomorrow,” she said. “The truth is life is too hard and I am alone.”

A cheap and quick way of destroying a woman’s life, acid attacks in India, Afghanistan and Bangladesh have received widespread attention in recent years, with a documentary about victims in Pakistan winning an Oscar this year. While the gruesome assaults have been rare in the West, a rising number of attacks in Colombia has alarmed prosecutors and public health officials and terrified women. Dozens of such attacks, in which assailants soak their victims with sulfuric or nitric acids, are believed to take place here each year.

The precise reason for the spike here — and not in, say, neighboring Peru — is not known. But women’s rights advocates in Colombia talk about an epidemic of violence against women, from spouse-battering cases so extreme that they make the nightly news to reports of illegal armed groups using rape as a weapon in a murky rural conflict.

“Sometimes in the West we make fast judgments and say, ‘Look how terrible they treat women in the East,’ and we don’t look first at ourselves,” said Monica Roa, the Bogota-based international programs director of Women’s Link Worldwide, a rights group. “The violence here may be different, but it emanates from the same place. This is a culture where machismo reigns, where men do what they want to do.”

If a woman is attacked over a dowry in India or because she ventured outside without a veil in Pakistan, in Colombia a woman might be attacked because of sheer rage over her independence or even by a disturbed man she doesn’t know.
That’s what happened in 2004 to Maria Cuervo when a complete stranger shouted, “This is so you don’t think you’re so pretty” and drenched her face with acid.

Mostly, though, a jilted boyfriend or a husband intoxicated with jealousy is behind the attack.
“He had hit me because of jealousy, so I ended it,” Erica Vanessa Vargas, a slight, soft-spoken woman of 20, said of the day she ended her relationship with a boyfriend four years ago. “He then said, ‘If you’re not mine, than no one will have you.’ ”

Her former boyfriend paid a small boy $1.75 to throw acid at her — changing the course of a young life. “I stopped going to school, I can’t work, I can’t depend on my own self,” said Vargas, wearing a scarf to shield her scarred neck and chin.

Legal avenues and reform

The statistics on acid attacks are hazy in Colombia, as in other countries where they take place.
Bogota city councilwoman Olga Rubio, a victims’ advocate, said about 100 of the assaults have taken place so far this year across Colombia. It is a pace that would easily surpass last year’s total of 150.

South African Pastor arrested for murdering nine year old girl

Monde Tokwe of Eden Church, together with his wife Nolufefe, Fundisile Sidumo and traditional healer Vusi Mofokeng, have been charged with the murder of Yonela Sikweyiya in 2010.
Sikweyiya's body was found in a veld in Brackensdowns, Ekurhuleni. All four accused have different lawyers.

Investigating officer Captain Happy Vilankulu of the Hawks told the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court that Tokwe, 48, began telling them of the devil's powers as soon as they arrived at his house in Mandela Park informal settlement near Katlehong.

"My informer told me that he knew the people who were responsible for the death of the little girl," Vilankulu said.

"He took me to Mandela Park, to a house which belongs to accused number 1 and 2 [Tokwe and his wife]. We knocked on the door and accused number 1 opened the door. I then told him that I had come to arrest him in connection with the Sikweyiya murder case. As I was explaining his rights to him, he said 'Satan is powerful'."

Vilankulu said Tokwe's wife was arrested at the same time.

Asked by prosecutor Sifiso Khumalo what Tokwe meant by that, Vilankulu said he had no idea. He said further that, without any questioning from the police, Tokwe then told the police that he knew what had happened to Sikweyiya.

"I was still a warrant officer at the time and so I handed the suspect to Captain Mthembu, who had accompanied me," Vilankulu said.

He told the court that he travelled great distance s to arrest the other two suspects, Sidumo and Mofokeng.

"Accused 1 then told me where to find accused 3 and we drove with him [Tokwe] to Mthatha as I was not familiar with the place.

"When we arrived, he pointed him out to us but because it was late, we booked him in at the Mthatha police station and drove back with him the following day."

The next stop for Vilankulu and his team of forensic experts was KwaZulu-Natal.
"Accused 1 and 2 also implicated accused 4 [Mofokeng] and we drove with accused 1 to Newcastle where he pointed him out to us.

"When we arrived, we found him throwing bones and consulting with a woman. I read him his rights before arresting him and he was cooperative," Vilankulu said.

During cross-examination by Tokwe's defence attorney Gundo Lidovho, Vilankulu said he had not only relied on information from his informer.

"I had already received statements from witnesses who saw the child going into the accused's house.
"In such a case, we do not just go and arrest somebody, we investigate first.
"So, in this matter, we sat down and from our own investigations and what my informer told me, we felt that we had a strong case."

New Jersey man arrested for strangling girlfriend to death then hanging her on a tree

New Jersey is 70% Christian, therefore a 70% chance this guy was Christian.
The poor woman was a Christian, see here:

Hey doesn't the Bible say Jesus was killed then hung on a tree?

"We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a tree, (Acts 10:39).

A Woodbury man who strangled his girlfriend to death with a belt in Camden two years ago, then hung her body in a tree to disguise the grime, was sentenced to 12 years in prison Friday morning, according to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.

Joseph Foy, 41, must serve 85 percent of that term before being eligible for parole, according to the terms imposed by Superior Court Judge Gwendolyn Blue.

Foy pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in June and admitted to strangling Kathyleen Trimble, 35, formerly of Mantua with a belt around 8 p.m. on Feb. 9, 2010 outside on South 4th Street between Whitman and Jackson streets in Camden. He then placed her body by a tree in an attempt to make her death appear to be a suicide.

Trimble’s body was found near where she was killed partially buried in freshly fallen snow from the blizzard the night before about 11:46 a.m. on Feb. 11.

Trimble’s mother, Rita Mills, brought her daughter’s ashes to court and spoke at length about the cost of Foy’s killing.

“I think of the horror and hear that she must have felt knowing that she was about to die all alone,” Mills said. “I can hear her calling to me “Help me Mom,” the way she did when she was in trouble, after the defendant beat her and took all of her money.”

Foy’s attempt to pass off Trimble’s death as a suicide was initially successful but Mills always suspected her daughter was murdered, and that Foy was her killer. Mills had to endure regular contact with him in the days after Trimble’s death.

“The defendant then tortured me for five days after he killed my daughter by calling me and asking me, ‘hey, Miss Mills, how’s it going,’ and ‘what are you doing,’ and ‘what the hell are we going to do about Kathy’s funeral,’ She said. “Or, ‘just called to tell you to have a nice day.’ What a piece of garbage the defendant is.”

Prosecutor Faulk extended particular credit to Camden Police Detectives Shawn Donlon and Robert Perkins, who were dissatisfied with the initial suicide ruling and continued to investigate the case. They were able to identify two witnesses that provided information contradicting Foy’s statements to police. Their investigation led to the medical examiner amending the manner of death from suicide to homicide on March 3. He also credited Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Investigator Eric Wren and Assistant Prosecutor Christine Shah.

Boston Pastor arrested for keeping nude pictures of young girls

SOUTH BOSTON (WHDH) -- A pastor working at a South Boston church entered a guilty plea Wednesday to charges of possessing and distributing child pornography.

Reverend Andrzej Urbaniak, a pastor at the largely Polish-American church Our Lady of Czestochowa for four years, has been jailed and suspended because of what investigators say they found on a church computer.

Investigators say they found pictures of girls who looked eight to 10 years old on a computer in the rectory.

Parishioners and non-parishioners share the pain.

"Shocking…in a word, shocking. Hearing him from the pulpit and listening to him and then find out something like this,” Allan Ramusiewicz, Our Lady of Czestochowa.

"I’m just at a loss for words,” said Randy Crehan, a parishioner at another church.

Prosecutors say pastor Urbaniak was caught up in a sweep by state police investigating computer networks where people trade files labeled “pre-teen,” “pedophilia,” and “Lolita.”

The investigation pointed to a computer in the South Boston rectory of Our Lady of Czestochowa. And when police moved in Tuesday night, they say the computer was downloading files and father Urbaniak knew what was there.

"There were a number of statements given post Miranda by the defendant stating that he was aware that this pornographic material would be found,” said Kate Clayman, prosecutor.

Pastor Urbaniak's lawyer admitted it a tough time to be defending a priest on a sex charge.
“With the charge alone he feels like he’s let people down and is disconsolate about it. This is obviously not a very good day for him,” said Jeffrey Denner, defense lawyer.
Urbaniak is being held on $10,000 bail.

The Archdiocese of Boston released a statement saying Urbaniak has been relieved of any priestly duties.

Tennessee man arrested for punching his girlfriend in the face over a Mitt Romney photo

Must have been a moderate.

Tennessee is without a doubt the most conservative state in the Bible belt. It's 82% Christian and hosts a number of large Christian events. It's also expected in the Bible that women silently obey their masters (what the Bible literally calls husbands). This has Christianity written all over it.

"Police in Tennessee said a man charged with domestic assault was upset about a picture of an unknown man on his girlfriend`s Facebook -- a photo of Mitt Romney."

Lowell Turpin, 40, who looks like he has been hit upside the head with a laptop, was seething with anger when he saw a photograph of Mitt Romney on his girlfriend`s Facebook page.
Turpin was unconvinced when his old lady explained that Romney was the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, and not a love interest. I don`t blame Turpin, Romney looks like a freakin` mortician.

Turpin doesn`t know Romney from Joe Blow, but he knows that a punch to the face hurts quite a bit, so he promptly punched his woman in the face and smashed her laptop against the wall.
I hope that Turpin knocked some sense into his lover, and that she will vote for Obama. But she`d better not put up a pic of the president on her Facebook page, redneck Turpin will probably kill her if he sees a pic of some black dude from Kenya on her Facebook page.
