MOORESTOWN, N.J. — A New Jersey pastor who ministered to the man accused of strangling a New York City boy who disappeared in 1979 is recalling him as a quiet, "maybe timid" man who "never got involved in anything."
The Rev. George Bowen Jr. is the pastor at Maranatha Christian Fellowship in
Moorestown, N.J. Suspect Pedro Hernandez was in his congregation.
Hernandez was arrested Thursday after police said he confessed to killing
6-year-old Etan Patz (AY'-tahn PAYTS') in the basement of a Manhattan
convenience store exactly 33 years ago.
Bowen says Hernandez attended church regularly with his family.
The minister says the suspect's wife and daughter came to him Thursday
"crying their eyes out" after Hernandez was taken into custody.
