Philippines Catholic school bans girl from graduating because of bikini pictures

On March 30, St. Theresa’s College High School in Cebu City, Philippines will be holding its graduation ceremony. But a 16-year-old student won't be allowed to attend or walk across a stage with her classmates to receive her diploma — because she posted a bikini-clad photo of herself on Facebook.

The Associated Press reports that the student posted a photo which showed her "wearing a bikini while holding a cigarette and a liquor bottle" on her Facebook page recently. This photo was reportedly "taken during a family outing," but that didn't matter to school officials who barred the girl from attending an upcoming graduation ceremony.

It's worth noting that while the girl won't be allowed to join the graduation ceremony on March 30, she will be allowed to graduate — as she has met academic requirements.

If her mother has her way, the student might get to participate in graduation rites after all. The Filipino site GMA News Online points out that the woman has acquired an attorney and filed a petition demanding that her daughter be permitted to participate in the graduation ceremony.

"Her lawyer said the Facebook account was 'private' and limited to friends so school officials," adds Cebu Daily News. The "obtained information ... was 'not for public consumption.'"

According to Cebu Daily News, the girl's photo was "cited for violating five provisions in the [St. Theresa’s College High School] Student Handbook" which include a rule against "posing and uploading pictures on the Internet that entail ample body exposure" and "engaging in immoral, indecent, obscene or lewd acts."

“I will have my own standards on whether or not it is lewd,” said a judge during a hearing for the petition, says Cebu Daily News. After that same hearing, the lawyer representing St. Theresa’s College High School clarified the the educational institution's justification for the graduation ban:

[St. Theresa’s College High School] is a Catholic school governed by the teachings of the Catholic Church. We have to see to it that values are formed. We are not happy with the penalty but we are forced to impose it because we have to form the values of children.

Yemeni Imams speak out against child marriages

SANAA – Yemenis are marrying off their daughters at a very early age, a practice seen by Muslim imams as rooted in tribal traditions, rather than in Islamic teachings.

"Much of child marriages are rooted in tribal tradition and not in Islam," Sheikh Mohamed al- Iryani, an Imam in Aden, told

He blamed poverty and fear of stigma for the common practice in the Arab Peninsula country.

"Poor families see raising daughters as a heavy burden which they are happy to unload on someone else at the first opportunity," he said.

"It is contrary to our teachings but as long as local Imams agree to perform the ceremonies it will continue.

Child marriages are widespread in Yemen.

Estimates show that 52 percent of Yemeni girls are married off before the age of 18 and 14 percent before the age of 15.

There are some cases in which young girls as little as 8 were being allowed to enter a marital union.

Well-remembered is the case of Nujud, a young Yemeni girl who challenged her family, demanding that a judge freed her from her abusive husband by dissolving her marriage.

“We as a society need to tackle this issue and launch some sort of a national dialogue," said Iryani.

Marriage in Islam is of utmost importance as it is upon the lawful union of a man and a woman that society grows strong and that moral is preserved.

In Islam it is not permissible for the guardian to compel the one under his guardianship to marry someone she does not desire to marry.

Rather, it is necessary to seek her consent and permission.

Marriage Age

Human rights activists have called for setting a minimum age limit to marriage to help uproot the phenomenon.

"Setting a minimum age limit to marriages will help prevent child abuse and young bride trafficking," Nadya Khalife, a women’s rights researcher for the Middle East and North Africa at Human Rights Watch, told

"Yemen’s political crisis has left issues such as child marriage at the bottom of the political priority list.

"But now is the time to move on this issue, setting the minimum age for marriage at 18, to ensure that girls and women who played a major role in Yemen’s protest movement will also contribute to shaping Yemen’s future."

Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, the highest religious body in the Sunni Muslim world, has recently issued a manual on the rights of Muslim children.

"Marriage in Islam is regulated by certain rules, namely, children must reach puberty and maturity so that they can get married," the manual said.

A recent HRW report said the repercussions of child marriages reverberate throughout Yemeni society as it prevents women from completing their education, keeping Yemen in a state of prolonged ignorance.

“Education is the key to progress," said Human Rights Minister Hooria Mashour.
"If we are to build a strong Yemen, we need our people to push on their study, child marriages prevent that."

Washington Pastor arrested for repeatedly raping ten year old girl

ENUMCLAW, Wash. - A local man was arrested and charged this week with repeatedly raping a 10-year-old girl while he was serving as the assistant pastor at an Enumclaw church.

Court documents filed by the King County Prosecutor's Office allege that Malcolm J. Fraser assaulted the girl over a period of several months in 2005 and 2006, when Fraser was 32 and the girl was 10.

The accusations came to light Monday when the girl, now 17, came forward and told Enumclaw police that Fraser had sexually abused her a number of times while he and his wife were staying with her family from 2005 to 2006, court documents say.

During that time Fraser was an assistant pastor at the small, nondenominational Sound Doctrine Church in Enumclaw. It was not immediately known if Fraser still works for the church.

According to court documents, the girl told detectives that Fraser came to her room after midnight more than 20 times while staying with her family.

She said he would cover her mouth to keep her quiet while he abused her and forced her to perform a variety of sex acts, including some that caused pain, court papers say.

She also told police that she tried to fight Fraser and resist him, but then he would grab her hard and threaten to harm her or her mother, according to court documents. Fraser also told her she would go to hell if she told anyone about the abuse, the girl said.

The day after detectives interviewed the victim, police went to a Christian book publishing office in Enumclaw where Fraser works and placed him under arrest.

According to court documents, Fraser asked no questions, made no statements and expressed no surprise during his arrest. Fraser said he wanted to cooperate with the investigation but that he wouldn't speak to police without having his attorney present.

On Friday, Fraser was formally charged with two counts of first-degree child rape. King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg has requested that he be held on $150,000 bail.

Fraser was born and raised in Scotland, but has been living in the United States since 2000. He told detectives he has been a U.S. citizen since 2009 or 2010.

Can Muslims take non-Muslims as friends?

A person asked about taking non-Muslim friends. Here's the reply.

Responding to your question, Dr. Wael Shihab, PhD in Islamic Studies, Al-Azhar University, and the Head of the Shari`ah Dept. of website, stated,

Thank you for your question.

In fact, a Muslim is required to be kind, cooperative, faithful, and friendly with his or her community members, colleagues, neighbors, etc.

At school, in office, or in any workplace a Muslim should cooperate with his or her colleagues in goodness for their own and for the public benefit and wellbeing. Allah Almighty says, {And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression.} (Al-Ma’idah 5: 2)

It is your duty, as a Muslim student, to be faithful, friendly, and cooperative with all your colleagues, Muslims and non-Muslims. You should translate the Islamic ethics and values into practice. Close and intimate friendship between boys and girls is un-Islamic. This kind of close friendship between boys and girls always leads to unacceptable behaviors.

So, you are to cooperate and deal with all your colleagues, boys and girls, within the general morals and values of Islam. Normal, decent, beneficial, fruitful, and moral talks, interactions, and communications among boys and girls are allowed provided that the dictates of Shari`ah are considered and adhered to

Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia: It's un-Islamic to abuse women

Firstly, the scholalrs from Saudi Arabia give the most ridiculous fatwas, many of which are against Islam. And many Muslims are openly critical of them. However there's stuff thats ALWAYS been agreed upon, throughout our history, and you will NEVER find a scholar, regardless of where he's from (or she) that says Muslim women should be beat, abused, or not treated properly. Its because theres COUNTLESS AUTHENTIC hadiths and Quran verses that command honourable treatment of women.

While Saudi sheikhs say women driving leads to prostitution, there's stuff they reiterate, which have been reiterated for 1400 years.

JEDDAH: Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh has strongly warned against maltreating women in any form and said this is totally against Islam.

In his Friday sermon at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh, the mufti said only bad people treat women badly.

"The psychological or physical abuse of wives, daughters and sisters is against the Islamic Shariah and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)," he said.

Al-Asheikh warned husbands and fathers who take the salaries of their wives and daughters that they are committing anti-Islamic acts.

"The fathers who make it a condition to have their daughters' salaries before they give their consent for marriage are equally wrong. Husbands who force their working wives to share in home expenses are committing erroneous acts. Islam made it the responsibility of the man to spend on the house," he told the worshippers.

The mufti also said it is haram (forbidden in Islam) when husbands ask their wives who request divorce to return the dowry before they consent to divorce. He also said burdening women with bank loans and letting them suffer the payment of installments is equally haram.

The mufti said polygamy, which is allowed by Islam under the condition of being just and fair, is not a loose right. "The first wife should have all her rights," he said.

He also warned against relying on matchmakers who draw a bright picture of the groom who may turn out in the end to be an unethical and irresponsible man.

"Matchmakers should convey a true picture of the groom and the bride," he said.

The mufti asked people to make the Prophet a role model in his treatment of women, citing a number of Hadiths that the Prophet never maltreated women.

"The Prophet was completely refined in the treatment of his wives, daughter and other Muslim women," he said.

The Prophet has said: "The best of you are the best to their wives; and I am the best to my wives."

The Ministry of Social Affairs has toll free telephone numbers in several cities and towns for women to report cases of violence against them.

Contrary to Christian claims, Muslim scholars and politicians give condolences

Nebraska Pastor arrested for sexually assaulting seventeen year old girl

MONETTE, AR (KAIT) – The Craighead County Sheriff Department says they have found a missing Nebraska girl who's been missing since late January, and have arrested a local minister.

"We were contacted by Nebraska police Sunday night. They had done some searches and found she'd been in contact with a man in Monette," said Detective Ron Richardson with the Craighead County Sheriff's Department.

According to the Craighead County Sheriff's Department, Monette Church of Christ minister Charles Hughes is being held at the Craighead County Detention Center on sexual assault charges in connection with her disappearance.

"We essentially found out that they had been in contact and he had in fact brought her to Arkansas. During the course of the interview, he admitted to having sexual relations with the juvenile," said Richardson

The teenager told Region 8 News off camera that she is the cousin of Hughes' wife. The teenager had changed her appearance. The seventeen-year-old went on to says she was not kidnapped and came to Arkansas on her own free will.

Deputies say she was found at 310 Braden Drive in Monette, and is cooperating with police.

Deputies are currently serving search warrants, investigating cell phone and computer records.

The Monette Police Department was recently contacted by Nebraska authorities in regards to the missing 17-year-old girl from Fairbury, Nebraska. Local authorities had been searching for the girl ever since.

Deputies say a woman in Monette alerted them of the missing girl after receiving an e-mail alert from Region 8 News. "When I received that alert on my cell phone from Ch. 8 as breaking news, my heart broke because I thought I recognized her. I did alert the city police here in Monette as soon as I recognized her picture," said the neighbor, who requested to remain anonymous. The neighbor said the teen was a tenant at one of her rental properties.

The FBI is also involved and exploring state and federal charges. Craighead County Sheriff Deputies say more charges could be filed.

As for the teen, Richardson says the department is just thankful she's safe. "She's going to go back home to family and hopefully things will work out between her and her family," said Richardson.

With an update on the charges Hughes is facing, Region 8 News is withholding the teen's name.

Ghana Pastor arrested for kidnapping young woman

The founder of God’s Power Ministry at Edina Essaman in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality of the Central Region, Kwaku Awotwi, has been arrested by the Elmina District Police Command for allegedly kidnapping a 25-year-old member of the church, Esi, also known as Nhyira.

Esi, according to police, had been in the pastor’s room for almost four months. She took her bath and even attended to nature’s call in the room because she could not go out due to “spiritual reasons”.

Pastor Awotwi, 35, who is a native of Bandoh near Breman in the municipality, was arrested early on Monday morning after the police had read about the incident on the internet.

According to the pastor, Esi could not go out because the Holy Ghost had asked her not to do so until she was instructed to. He added that the day Esi stepped out would be the end of the world hence the need for mankind to change.

Virginian Pastor arrested on sex charges for luring teen girl

PETERSBURG - A pastor of a Dinwiddie County church is in custody after allegedly using Facebook to try and meet a 15-year-old girl for sex.

A guardian of the teen prompted the investigation after notifying police.

Petersburg police arrested the Rev. Dr. Curtis Glendell Mathews at his Prince George County home late Tuesday night.

According to search warrants for Mathews' Prince George home and Springfield Baptist Church in Dinwiddie, where he is pastor, police interviewed the victim, who said she was having conversations with a person she believed to also be a minor. The communication was through Facebook.

The search warrant indicates that police viewed numerous sexually explicit messages from the male to the victim. Also according to the warrant, the victim met with the man in Petersburg on Monday and saw that he was an adult, later identified as Mathews.

Mathews, 50, is being held without bond in Riverside Regional Jail in Prince George County on two felony counts of using a communication device for facilitating sex with a minor.

The search warrants indicate that police were looking for "cell phones, computers, hard drives, digital storage devices including but not limited to tapes, CDs, DVDs, Zip Disks and jump drives, iPads, iPods, documents, photos and digital images, optical storage devices or other memory storage devices, peripheral input/output devices such as keyboards, printers, monitors, software and instruction manuals and videotapes related to sexual activity between children and adults."

Petersburg police spokeswoman Esther Hyatt said that the investigation is continuing. She couldn't say whether or not the victim attends Springfield Baptist Church.

According to the church's website, the church was organized in 1867 and claims to be one of the oldest black churches in the south.

Mathews says on the website for the church, "when you visit Springfield you will feel safe no matter where you are in your life, because at Springfield we love like Christ."

Calls to the church office were not answered Wednesday afternoon.

Anti-Muslim conservative Christian is for spousal rape

"By getting married, the woman has consented to sex, and I don't think you can call it rape."

Not only that, but she's known to mimic what the Bible teaches about women (see our other blog and see the verses on the side bar).

"I have cancelled speeches whenever my husband thought that I had been away from home too much."

“it is ludicrous to suggest that [other jobs] are more self-fulfilling than the daily duties of a wife and mother in the home”.

“Social conservative women believe in a strict division of gender roles as decreed by the scriptures. Gender is envisioned as a hierarchal ordering with God and Christ at the top, followed by men, and then women”.

Look I do agree with some stuff that Phylys Sheifly or (however you spell it) says, but the other stuff she says is just plain wrong.

Seventeen year old girl was sexually abused at Christian high school

VANCOUVER -- A teacher aide at a Clark County Christian High School has been arrested on sex abuse charges involving a student.

Kylee Allworth, 29, appeared Wednesday in Clark County Superior Court. She was ordered held on $50,000 bail. She was charged with three counts of suspicion of sexual misconduct with a minor. Her next court appearance was scheduled for March 28.

An informer told Kings Way Christian School officials about the allegations on Saturday, who turned them over to the Clark County sheriff's office.

Allworth is also an assistant basketball coach and lunchroom monitor. The victim is a 17-year-old girl.

A detective's affidavit alleges that Allworth started making sexual advances about Feb. 24 that included sexual contact. Several of the incidents took place at the school, the affiliated church or on church property.

Allworth told the victim not to say what was happening, as she could go to jail, the affidavit said.

The affidavit said Allworth, after after a Miranda warning, confessed before detectives to the advances. Her testimony mirrored what the victim told police.

"I would say it's heartbreaking," Jeff Waldbauer, executive pastor, told KGW, "I mean just crushing. You can never prepare yourself for something like this. As a parent who has high school students. As a dad I cant imagine what would take place and how to move forward."

Kenyan Televangelist arrested for murdering girlfriend

A televangelist has been arrested over the murder of his girlfriend in Nairobi’s Dagoretti area.

Police are holding Pastor Paul Ng’ang’a Wanjiru of Wells of Faith Church and his son James Mutua over the murder of the woman who was identified as Caroline Chinjira, an employee of Panafric Hotel.

The two are accused of strangling Chinjira along the Southern by-pass in Lang’ata area on Friday night before she died on Saturday while undergoing treatment.

Chinjira was four months pregnant, which according to the family and police was the source of the conflict with the suspects.

She also had a son belonging to the pastor.

She had been strangled on her neck and died out of profuse bleeding at the Kenyatta National Hospital.

And when the news of the arrest of the pastor broke out on Sunday, his followers descended on his church in Kawangware area and demolished it in anger.

The drama started on Friday night at the by-pass as she, and the suspects drove to drop her home.

Apparently, according to police the pastor and his son had planned to commit the offence. And on reaching at the road, the son started to strangle the woman using a wire as she seated on the co-driver’s seat while his father drove at a slow pace.

The site of the incident is usually quiet at night and is taken to be a den of crime as many people have been attacked there in the past.

And as the struggle continued, Chinjira managed to overpower the son and sneak out of the move car and dashed into darkness as they allegedly pursued her.

She told police before she died she ran on foot up to Ngong Road near Lenana School where she found a Securicor car and sought help from them.

"She had sought help from other motorists using the road in vain. It forced her to walk to near Lenana School where she got help from the guards," said Lang’ata OCPD Rono Bunei.

She narrated her story to the guards informing them what she had gone through before they drove back to the scene where she said the attack happened.

The guards drove with the deceased to the scene where she said she had been attacked and found the pastor and the son still there.

UN women's rights panel condemns Israel for degrading Palestinian women

New York Pastor arrested for taking nude pictures of ten year old girl

NEW YORK (WABC) -- A man known in his Bronx community as a pastor has been arrested.

A mother says he took partially nude pictures of her 10-year-old daughter.

Eyewitness News spoke to the victim's mother on the telephone.

She said these photographing incidents have been happening for a year, and her 10-year-old daughter just told her about it.

When she confronted the suspect, a friend who neighbors say is a local pastor; she says he threatened to kill her if she told police.

Eyewitness News went to Jose Malave's Bronx apartment, where neighbors say he lives with his wife, but no one was home.

Police arrested the 68-year-old Wednesday after a family friend claimed he took pictures of her 10-year-old daughter in her underwear.

"He's a pastor, he's a good pastor," a neighbor said.

Neighbors say they don't believe Malave committed this crime.

"They are very nice to me, a good family, a very nice man," the neighbor said.

"This is a wonderful man, and a wonderful wife. Like I told you, my mouth is in the basement," another neighbor said, "This would be the last thing that I would think."

The neighborhood where Malave lives is filled with children, and one mother we talked to says she's not surprised to hear these allegations.

"You can maybe have one of your neighbors be sex offenders," said Maria Corredor, a neighbor.

Maria Corredor says the number of registered sex offenders living on her block keeps growing, which forces her to remind her 9-year-old how to stay safe.

"Anything happen to you, you have to see how people touch you in any part. Anything that's going on with professors, teachers, you have to tell mommy," Corredor said.

Neighbors say Malave is a pastor, but they don't know what church he belongs to.

The 68-year-old suspect, who's never been arrested before, has yet to be charged and arraigned, but the DA's office tells Eyewitness News that will happen at Bronx Criminal Court.

Ghana Pastor arrested for raping eight young girls

A randy, fugitive pastor, James Nana Kwasi Agyeman, has been arrested after jumping bail for about four years.

Nana Kwasi Agyeman, 42, Founder and General overseer of the Church of Shiva Linga Prayer Group in Abidjan, La Cote d’Ivoire and Dome in Accra, was re-arrested at his hideout at Techiman in the Brong-Ahafo Region after absconding for almost four years whilst standing trial on charges of defilement involving eight children.

He was hauled before an Accra Circuit Court yesterday where he was remanded into prison custody to re-appear on March 19, 2012.

Pastor James, who was domiciled in La Cote d’Ivoire, is reported to have defiled the eight children with ages ranging from three to 12 years old.

The pastor, who was the guardian of these children, is said to have cajoled their parents who were members of his church to allow them to live with him so he could bring them up uprightly in the fear of the Lord.

Unknown to these gullible members, Pastor James had hatched a diabolic plan to unleash his libido on the innocent children as he picked and chose who among them he should have sex with at will.

Suspicions are that the pastor had had several bouts of sex with the children on different occasions until his cup got full somewhere in January 2008, when he was arrested in Accra.

Chief Inspector Whoknows Attipoe, the station officer of the Accra Regional Domestic Violence Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), told DAILY GUIDE that Pastor James was first arrested in Dome after the alleged defilement case was reported against him in 2008.

The suspect was then charged after investigations on eight counts of defilement.

He was subsequently arraigned and bailed somewhere in February 2008, following an application filed by his counsel.

He made a couple of appearances in court afterwards but later jumped bail.

James was never seen again until he was spotted somewhere in Techiman on Sunday March 4, 2012.

He was re-arrested and put before court yesterday.

Pastor James would re-appear before court on March 19, 2012.

Christian man stabs homeless girlfriend to death behind Mississippi church

There's two articles on this, the other will follow.
But of course, this was not an honor killing, it has nothing to do with Christianity. If it did then FOX news wold be all over it, right?

WLBT News has confirmed the identity of a homeless woman found stabbed to death in south Jackson on Sunday.

Gina O'Flaherty, 47, died after being stabbed in the abdomen on a property adjacent to the Southside Baptist Church on Raymond Road.

The church's Pastor, Jeff Parker, says he had ministered to O'Flaherty on multiple occasions.

Parker said O'Flaherty lived with another man in a tent on property adjacent to the church.

Police have arrested Robert Bass, 47, and charged him with murder in O'Flaherty's death.

"It sounds almost out of character for the type of man he was," Pastor Parker said. "It doesn't sound like something he would do."

Pastor Parker says the two had lived in a tent in a wooded area behind the church.

"She would come on Wednesday nights, eat our soup," Pastor Parker said. "She was a sweet lady, very kind, gentle."

Stay with WLBT and for updates on this developing story.

Next article from:

Gina O'Flaherty lived long enough to tell authorities who inflicted the stab wound that ended her life.

O'Flaherty, 47, a homeless woman in Jackson, died at Central Mississippi Medical Center on Sunday after being taken there from Southside Baptist Church, where she was an active participant in many of its programs.

Police have arrested her 48-year-old boyfriend, Robert Bass, on a murder charge in her death.

Southside pastor Jeff Parker said O'Flaherty lived in a tent city in the woods along the east side of the church's property. He said it's his understanding she was stabbed there, and somehow made her way up the road to the church, where she called for help.

Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart said O'Flaherty was pronounced dead at CMMC around 6:04 p.m.

O'Flaherty used to live on Gibraltar Drive, but a series of financial issues caused her to lose her house, Parker said. Since then, she was a part of the Southside family, Parker said.

The loss of the friendly, gentle woman who loved prayer meetings has shocked those involved in the church's homeless ministry.

"We just loved her," Parker said. "I was so upset last night."

O'Flaherty said last Wednesday she wanted to be a part of a "Celebrate Recovery" program, which will minister to people needing help with addictions. Parker said she never gave any indication of having any addictions.

"If she had alcohol or drug problems, she was one person who did not show that here at this church," he said.

Parker said if O'Flaherty had gotten involved with the program, she could have been moved to a women's shelter that is opening at Southside.

"She was a sweet lady," Parker said. "She was always very kind and appreciative of everything we did for her."

A doctor who had recently visited Southside and was moved by the ministry had offered to take several of the homeless people to dinner one night next week. O'Flaherty was looking forward to the event, Parker said.

Bass, who is originally from Texas, is called "Slim" by his friends. Parker said Bass "was very nice around here."

Bass' initial court appearance will be Wednesday.

So what if this was a mosque instead of a church, and there was an imaam instead of a paator, and the woman had a muslim name and the guy had a Muslim name, this for SURE would be an honor killing, this for SURE would be on FOX news, and for SURE the whole islamic scholarly panel of Robert Spencer, Pamela Geller, David Wood, and numerous others would be getting the spotlight for info on Islam.

“He then took her to his bedroom and allegedly raped her.”

The pastor will appear in the Roodeport Magistrate's Court soon. - Sapa
