3rd Toronto Pastor arrested for sex crimes

Whoah Toronto, what going on there? I guess they really are the city that never sleeps.

TORONTO - The pastor of a Mississauga church will return to court in two weeks to face a charge of sexual assault involving a female parishioner he was counselling.

The suspect was arrested April 2010 and made his first court appearance this past April, Peel police Const. George Tudor said.

News of the alleged offence surfaced after disgruntled worshippers called the Toronto Sun following a similar but unrelated charge filed against another pastor last Friday.

Tudor said the suspect in this case was released on strict conditions and is slated to return to Brampton court for a pre-trial hearing on June 23.

The suspect is a pastor at Mt. Zion Apostolic Church on Professional Ct., which is listed as his employer, police said.

Cecil Harper, 68, of Toronto, has been charged.

Harper, who has been a pastor at the church for nine years, refused to comment on the allegations on Monday.

Worshippers allege the charge stemmed from an inappropriate relationship between a suspect and a female who was undergoing counselling after a marriage breakup.

It is alleged police were called after a suspect failed to hand over sums of money to a woman to keep quiet about the affair.

Meanwhile, the other Toronto pastor appeared in court last Thursday in relation to a sexual assault at a North York church.

The alleged victim in that case told police she was attacked when she showed up for a prayer session last week at the Fire of Miracle Ministries Church on Finch Avenue W., near Keele St.

Pastor Emmanuel Animodi, 45, has been charged with sexual assault.
