Baptist Pastor charged for having sex with underage girl

Deputies on Tuesday arrested a former associate pastor of a popular Union County church and charged him with criminal sexual conduct with a minor, second degree.

Stephen Douglas Berry, 38, of Jonesville, was associate pastor at New Life Baptist Church, though he was not working there at the time of his arrest.

According to the Union County Sheriff's Office, Berry had sex with an underage girl, but the exact details of the alleged encounter haven't been made public.

Berry was booked into jail on Tuesday afternoon, and as of this posting, his bail had not been set.

There was no public phone listing available for New Life's senior pastor, Shep Bevis, and there has been no comment yet from the church.
