Wife divorces Pastor who raped niece

SITEKI – A woman recently divorced her husband, who is a pastor on allegations that he raped her 11-year-old niece.

Happy Mtsetfwa alleged, in her divorce papers that she could no longer continue being married to Pastor Nkosinathi Motsa because he allegedly raped her niece a while ago.

Motsa, a pastor at Mlindazwe Nazarene Church lived within the premises of the church and is said to have been actively preaching at the time of the alleged rape.

The couple appeared before Magistrate Philisile Dlamini represented by their lawyers on April 15, 2010 where Mtsetfwa alleged that her husband had raped her niece.

Apart from the alleged rape incidence, Mtsetfwa also cited physical abuse as another reason for ending her eight year old marriage to the pastor.

Part of the divorce papers read, "We were staying with our 11-year-old niece (name withheld). I then discovered in June 7, 2008 that he (Motsa) had sex with her. I called my niece and asked her and she admitted to this in his presence."

Mtsetfwa also said she was living in fear after confronting Motsa as he would become physically abusive towards her.

The information was also recorded under civil matters at the Magistrates’ Court.

"I had to take my niece to live with someone else after that to protect her," she continued.

Kenneth Simelane, Mtseftwa’s lawyer from Sigwane and Associates confirmed that his client did mention the issue of rape.

"I can’t however state the exact words as the information is filed at Siteki where the divorce was finalised," said Simelane.

According to Mtsetfwa, the sexual abuse allegedly took place on several occasions.

Pastor accused of sexually assaulting teen girl

And lemme guess, the Pastor is gonna get charged and jailed like the hundreds of others before him?

The leader of a small Brazilian church in Milford is facing child rape and sexual assault charges in a case involving a teenage girl, stunning the immigrant community and rallying supporters to the pastor’s defense.

Ana Paula Almeida, the leader of Plenitude of God Ministries, a storefront Protestant church on Main Street, is accused of sexually assaulting a girl from the church youth group from 2006 to 2008, beginning when the girl was 14, according to Milford police.

Almeida, 31, pleaded not guilty last week in Milford District Court to one count of statutory rape and four counts of indecent assault and battery on a child 14 or older, and was released on $500 bail, said spokesman Timothy Connolly of the Worcester district attorney’s office. She is restricted to her home in Milford until she gets a GPS monitoring device.

She and a supporter said today the claims are false, and stem from an internal power struggle in the church to discredit her leadership.

‘‘I know I’m not guilty,’’ said Almeida. ‘‘I’m a preacher. I have a whole congregation.’’

An immigrant from Sao Paulo, Almeida founded the tiny church more than three years ago and holds regular services and community activities with about 100 congregants. Colleagues said she is an energetic and respected leader who came to the United States in the past decade and worked her way up to lead the church.

But police allege that Almeida abused her authority. The girl, who is now 16, and her parents went to police last week to file a complaint, saying that Almeida sexually assaulted the girl 11 times at Almeida’s home from spring 2006 through last summer.

‘‘There’s a person in a position of trust and a position of authority, at least societal authority,’’ said Police Chief Thomas O’Loughlin. ‘‘There was a violation of that trust.’’

The investigation continued today as police detectives tried to track down and interview other girls in the youth group, O’Loughlin said.

Almeida declined to comment at length and referred questions to friend and spokesman Jehozadak Pereira, who is also the editor of A Noticia, a Portuguese-language weekly about the Brazilian community.

He said through a translator that a relative of the girl clashed with Almeida over church leadership, culminating in December when Almeida removed the woman from her duties, upsetting the woman and her supporters.

‘‘They had promised her they were going to seek revenge,’’ he said. ‘‘If they knew this was going on for so long, why only now do they come forward?’’

For other Brazilians in Milford, the allegations raised concern about trust inside their tight-knit community. They hoped it would not tarnish others’ opinions of the religious or immigrant community.

‘‘I’m very sad,’’ said Pastor Samuel Neto of Igreja do Evangelho Quadrangular in Milford, who fielded telephone calls from people who had learned of the arrest. ‘‘I am just praying to God to make it easier.’’

Christian Husband jailed for slashing wife's throat

Indeed there might be a Catholic twist here but hey they still are Christian. They still believe in Jesus and the trinity and the Bible. They form the largest branch of Christianity. And they are at times referred to as Christians by fellow Protestants. Eg when Al Queda attacked that Catholic Church in Iraq recently, notable Portestants like David Wood, Nabeel Quereshi, and James White were standing strong with the Catholics and against Islam (no change there).

While her husband sits in a Jamaican prison, the Toronto-area woman who's accusing him of trying to kill her during a pre-Christmas vacation is expected to return home Wednesday.

Her 43-year-old husband, Paul Martin, is charged with attempted murder and remains in custody after being denied bail during a preliminary hearing Tuesday.

With bandages covering wounds on her neck and thumb, Cathy-Lee Martin tearfully testified before a judge in a Falmouth, Jamaica courtroom and accused her husband of twice slitting her throat and trying to strangle her in a failed murder attempt.

"She's under no misapprehension as to what happened to her and who did it," Cathy-Lee Martin's lawyer, Nathan Robb, told reporters outside the courthouse.

The alleged attack occurred the day the Ajax, Ont., couple, which has two kids aged five and two, was scheduled to leave Jamaica after a weeklong vacation.

Paul Martin, a fifth-grade teacher at St. Francis de Sales Catholic School in Ajax, allegedly told his 34-year-old wife he was taking her on a sightseeing tour before heading to the airport but drove their rental car into a secluded area and allegedly attacked her, the Jamaica Observer newspaper reported.

Cathy-Lee Martin, a bank manager, alleges her husband became violent because he mistakenly believed she was cheating on him, the newspaper reported.

The Martins reportedly travelled to Jamaica to mend their strained relationship.

Despite her serious injuries, Cathy-Lee Martin was able to escape the vehicle and flag down a passing motorist, who pursued the suspect's vehicle down the road, she told court.

A passing taxi driver picked her up and drove her to a hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery.

In his defence, Paul Martin told police investigators his wife was attacked by a stranger during a robbery attempt, said Det. Sgt. Pheonia Watson of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

However, further investigation foiled that claim, Watson told CTV's Canada AM on Wednesday.

Paul Martin was present at Tuesday's court hearing. So were members of Cathy-Lee Martin's family, according to the Jamaica Observer.

For now, Paul Martin sits in a Jamaican jail pending his next scheduled court appearance is in January.

"He himself is very traumatized. His primary concern is about his children … and he is very, very concerned about his wife," said Ernest Smith, Paul Martin's attorney.

Cathy-Lee Martin, meanwhile, is expected to return to Ontario on a flight arriving at Pearson International Airport in Toronto on Wednesday.

Egyptian Church abused Priest's wife for converting to Islam

Once again, it only add's to the strife Christian and Muslim women go through by Christians. I actually had no idea about this woman, I was quite distracted by the others. Nonetheless may God almighty help her.
BTW I've noticed there's alot of deceptive Christian news agencies about these abused women. The thing is, I've never seen these sites cite any government or police documents rather just blame Muslims.

CAIRO, Egypt • The wives of two Egyptian Coptic priests, forbidden by the church from divorcing their abusive husbands, desperately sought another way out by converting to Islam. When their intentions were discovered, police handed them over to the church, and their whereabouts since have been unknown.

The cases caused a furor at home that spilled over the borders and turned deadly when al-Qaida in Iraq cited the women as the reason behind the worst attack ever on Christians in Iraq — a siege of a church in October that left 68 people dead.

It was a stark example of the schism between Christians and Muslims that runs through the Middle East and periodically erupts into violence.

“Amid the current sectarian discord, the timing is perfect for al-Qaida to show it is defending Islam and to exploit the situation to rally extremists against the churches,” said Ammar Ali Hassan, an expert in Islamic movements.

Both Wafaa Constantine, 53, and Camilla Shehata, 25, lived in remote rural towns and enjoyed prestige as devoted and pious wives of conservative Coptic priests. But behind that veneer, a lawyer and a church official said, the women were trapped in abusive relationships.

Both tried to seek a divorce through church channels but hit a dead end because the Coptic Orthodox Church forbids divorce — a rule enforced even more strictly against the wives of priests. And they decided to rebel, not only against their husbands but against the whole religion.

They sought to convert to Islam, something viewed as a disgrace in their community. The Coptic Church considers those who convert to other religions dead, making the marriage contract invalid.

Though Egyptian religious authorities say the women never succeeded in converting, the controversy in both cases escalated with protests by Egyptian Christians, who accused Muslims of abducting the women and forcing them to convert.

That riled Muslim extremists in Egypt who protested and accused the church of holding them against their will and forcing them to convert back to Christianity.

Al-Qaida in Iraq turned it into a cause celebre when it cited the women as the reason behind the Baghdad church siege. The group followed with more threats against Iraq’s Christian minority, generating such fear that most Christmas celebrations in the country were canceled.

Evangelical Preacher jailed for raping girl

AN evangelical preacher has been jailed for seven years after using his power and influence to rape a young girl at his home in Birmingham.

Judge Peter Barrie told Yosef Solomon: “You were in a position of trust and responsibility towards a very young girl and you took advantage of her in a terrible way.”

He went on: “I accept that this was a temptation that came your way without any pre-planning and that you carried it out without any particular violence.

Solomon, aged 37, of Serpentine Road, Aston, who was found guilty of charges of rape and sexual assault, was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life.

John Attwood, prosecuting at Birmingham Crown Court, said the victim first met the defendant at the Ebenezer Evangelical Church in Aston, where he preached.

He said there came a time when Solomon, who was married and a family man, had asked whether the girl could come to his home to help him look after his daughters after his wife had to go into hospital.

The girl’s mother agreed because she respected the defendant. On the second night she was at Solomon’s home, the defendant had invited her to watch TV with him and, when she came downstairs, discovered a pornographic film being shown.

Solomon then took advantage of the situation and went on to rape her.

Mr Attwood said, the following morning, Solomon had also “french-kissed” the girl, which had disgusted her.

Graham Henson, for Solomon, claimed the victim had made the allegations up and said the defendant was “a God-fearing Christian respected by members of his community”.

Ahaha okay so lets dehumanize the poor little girl for getting raped? Reminds me of the Bible:

Judges 21: 10- 24:

So they sent twelve thousand warriors to Jabesh-gilead with orders to kill everyone there, including women and children. "This is what you are to do," they said. "Completely destroy all the males and every woman who is not a virgin." Among the residents of Jabesh-gilead they found four hundred young virgins who had never slept with a man, and they brought them to the camp at Shiloh in the land of Canaan.

The Israelite assembly sent a peace delegation to the little remnant of Benjamin who were living at the rock of Rimmon. Then the men of Benjamin returned to their homes, and the four hundred women of Jabesh-gilead who were spared were given to them as wives. But there were not enough women for all of them. The people felt sorry for Benjamin because the LORD had left this gap in the tribes of Israel. So the Israelite leaders asked, "How can we find wives for the few who remain, since all the women of the tribe of Benjamin are dead? There must be heirs for the survivors so that an entire tribe of Israel will not be lost forever. But we cannot give them our own daughters in marriage because we have sworn with a solemn oath that anyone who does this will fall under God's curse."

Then they thought of the annual festival of the LORD held in Shiloh, between Lebonah and Bethel, along the east side of the road that goes from Bethel to Shechem. They told the men of Benjamin who still needed wives, "Go and hide in the vineyards. When the women of Shiloh come out for their dances, rush out from the vineyards, and each of you can take one of them home to be your wife! And when their fathers and brothers come to us in protest, we will tell them, 'Please be understanding. Let them have your daughters, for we didn't find enough wives for them when we destroyed Jabesh-gilead. And you are not guilty of breaking the vow since you did not give your daughters in marriage to them.'" So the men of Benjamin did as they were told. They kidnapped the women who took part in the celebration and carried them off to the land of their own inheritance. Then they rebuilt their towns and lived in them. So the assembly of Israel departed by tribes and families, and they returned to their own homes.

Notable Evangelist charged with sexually assaulting teen girls

I can't copy and paste so I'll just link to it:

Baptist Pastor charged with spanking girl, Father arrested for sexual abuse

ELGIN, Ill. (ABP) -- A Chicago-area Baptist preacher avoided jail time after being found guilty of battery for spanking a girl he thought was lying about sexual abuse.

Daryl P. Bujak, 33, was sentenced to a year of supervision, 80 hours of community service and $350 in fines after his conviction of two counts of misdemeanor battery at a two-day bench trial that ended March 18. A judge cleared him of another charge of failing to report sexual abuse.

Police arrested Bujak in May 2006 for allegedly spanking a 12-year-old girl brought to him for counseling by parents who doubted her story that she was being sexually abused. Bujak, who also believed she was lying, is said to have beaten the girl with a piece of wooden molding hard enough to leave bruises and welts on her legs and buttocks.

According to media reports, Bujak, former pastor of First Missionary Baptist Church in Elgin, Ill., told Kane County Judge Allen Anderson he was "over his head" in trying to deal with allegations of sexual abuse.

During the trial the girl, now 16, testified that spankings were a regular part of weekly meetings with her pastor beginning in March 2005 after she gave her mother a note containing vague allegations of sexual abuse.

Police believed the girl's story, charging her stepfather, 33-year-old Matthew Resh, with five counts of predatory criminal sexual abuse on May 12, 2006. Resh, now 36, is awaiting trial on charges stemming from incidents alleged to have occurred between September 2003 and November 2005.

The judge rejected Bujak's claim that corporal punishment is not a crime if carried out with permission of the parents. But the magistrate also said it wasn't clear that the girl gave Bujak enough detail to put him in violation of a state law that requires clergy to report allegations of sexual abuse.

Bujak left First Missionary Baptist Church, described on its website as independent and "fundamental," in August 2008, but the reason reportedly had nothing to do with the battery case.

Evangelist arrested for raping 11 year old girl

BEDFORD, Pa. — Authorities in western Pennsylvania say an evangelist from Lexington has been arrested and charged with assaulting an 11-year-old girl a few years ago.

State police in Bedford County say the Rev. Walter Donald Bradshaw was arrested Tuesday at his home in Lexington.

He is being held in lieu of $150,000 bail pending extradition to Pennsylvania.

He is charged with rape, rape of a child, and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child.

Police say 61-year-old Bradshaw was a traveling evangelist and met the family at a revival four years ago.

They say the alleged assault happened between 2007 and 2008 at the Janey Lynn Motel in Bedford.

Police said the 51-year-old mother of the victim also was taken into custody.

A message left at a number listed for Bradshaw was not immediately returned Saturday.

It was unclear whether he has an attorney.

Leading Christian Preacher charged for murdering teen girl

And sadly this occured in my hometown.

EDMONTON - The man accused of murdering a pastor's teenaged daughter in Edson was once a travelling preacher who carried the word of God to work camps, his friends say, and years ago married a pregnant woman to help her escape life on the streets.

Six years ago, Ross Edward Kleman found a woman's body, the cousin of a close friend, in the woods near Edson.

Pastor Jim Findlay said Kleman found the body when he stepped off a trail to urinate. He then ran to the road and called police.

"It shook him up pretty bad," Findlay said.

Kleman was charged Thursday with first-degree murder in the killing of 14-year-old Emily Stauffer.

On Thursday afternoon, RCMP officers led Kleman in handcuffs down the Edson trail where Emily Stauffer was murdered on Sept. 27.

"If the public or the media sees this individual out in the public with police, rest assured he is in custody and it is part of the ongoing investigational process," Cpl. Wayne Oakes said.

The portrait of Kleman that emerged from interviews with friends and family Thursday and from postings on his Facebook page was of a man who loved gospel music, enjoyed fishing and hiking in the woods, and listed "church" as his No. 1 interest and activity.

Findlay said he has known Kleman for 16 years and lived with him for about a decade. It was Kleman who found the body of the pastor's cousin, Margaret Helen Findlay, on Oct. 16, 2002. The woman was also the aunt of Kleman's ex-wife.

Margaret Findlay, 38, was identified through DNA testing six weeks after Kleman found her body. At the time, RCMP said her death was suspicious. She was last seen in September of that year. Her body parts were likely scatted by animals. No cause of death was released.

Findlay said his family often talked with Kleman about the discovery, and debated featuring her death on America's Most Wanted. No one has been charged in connection with her death.

Findlay said as part of their work at the Bread of Life mission in Edson, he and Kleman often travelled to northern Alberta to preach at work camps and on reserves. The pair would travel from town to town and preach in tents or tiny town halls.

During this period, Findlay said, Kleman worked as a volunteer and acted as his "right-hand man."

"I know him just as well as anybody. He is a very devoted person and the nicest guy ever. I've literally seen him give the coat off his back to someone. I've seen him lend his car to a woman with no other way to get to work."

Findlay said he knows the Stauffers well, but said Kleman only had a passing acquaintance with the family. Since the murder, Findlay said he and Kleman had talked about the case and how they both hoped the killer would be caught.Findlay said he was shocked to hear of Kleman's arrest, and has no doubt about his innocence.

"I didn't believe it and I still don't," he said. "It will have to be proven to me. Everyone who comes to our church doesn't believe it. The phone is ringing off the hook."

Before his arrest, Kleman worked as an equipment operator for the town's public works office. On the Facebook page Kleman created Nov. 15, he identifies himself as an avid churchgoer with a passion for gospel music. He wrote that he loves hiking and swimming, "but most of all, helping people when possible."

He lists the Bible as his favourite book.
"Some call me lazy and some call me crazy," he wrote on the page. "You tell me what you think and if you can't decide, ask my wife ... Ha ha ha!"

Kleman also occasionally attended the Bethel Pentecostal Family Worship Centre in Edson.
"He appeared to be a very gentlemanly individual," Pastor Larry Tollefson said. "When I heard, I thought the cops had the wrong man. I thought, 'No way, this is a mistake.' "

Kleman was not a regular member of the centre's congregation, but occasionally showed up for services, Tollefson said.

He also sporadically attended Sacred Heart Catholic Parish. Kleman's wife is reportedly a devoted Catholic.

Findlay first met his longtime friend when Kleman was working at an Esso station in 1992.

"I grew to like him," he said. "He came to church with me and my wife. He came to live with us, adopted us as parents."

Kleman helped Findlay refurbish a home for social housing along with the mission building itself.

He lived with the Findlays off and on until about four years ago, when he moved in full-time with his second wife, a Filipino woman named Deama.

His first marriage was to a pregnant woman who lived on the streets before Kleman helped her.

Eventually, the two married and Kleman helped raise her son for a time.

"The two of them went fishing and that boy would hang off Ross's neck," Findlay said. "He loved Ross."

Kleman's ex-wife, Patricia Plante, said they were set up by family members and married in 1995. They lived in Nova Scotia for several years before she left him. Their divorce was finalized in 2003, she said.

"He showed a face and a side to the world that he wanted people to see. But it wasn't the real him," she said. "I saw the real him, but he had put up this front for so long that he had everybody fooled."

She has been interviewed several times by detectives about the Stauffer homicide over the past two months, she said.

Plante said Kleman was an avid outdoorsman who hiked in the woods around Edson several times each week.

Kleman was raised by his grandmother in Greenwood, B.C., which was where he learned devotion to God and found a need to help others, Findlay said.

On his Facebook page, Kleman wrote "Walk by faith and not by sight," a quote from 2nd Corinthians, 5:7.
A month ago, as police searched for Emily Stauffer's killer, Kleman lost all feeling and movement in the left side of his body, Findlay said.

"He could hardly move, he could hardly speak, he was in bad shape."

His friend recovered for two weeks at University Hospital, Findlay said, and regained his movement and speech. He was still noticeably frail and weak compared to the strength he had before.

Tests showed white spots on Kleman's brain, lungs and spine that doctors said could be tumours, Findlay said.

Kleman was scheduled to see an Edson doctor on Monday for more tests.

RCMP continue to seek tips and evidence as they build their case.

In a posting on his blog Thursday, Pastor Terry Stauffer said he had seen Kleman at a handful of town events, but did not know him.

"The news of the arrest of a man charged with Emily's murder has brought, as you can imagine, mixed feelings," he wrote. "We are thankful for this step, and we are particularly thankful for the RCMP's 'above and beyond' work on this case. On the other hand, this news brings many difficult feelings to the surface. We're doing pretty well, though we're lying low today. We continue to trust in God for His strength and comfort."

Kleman remarried about four years ago, Findlay said.

He travelled to the Philippines to meet his second wife's family, said Kleman's cousin, Mary Ann Hoefling.

She said he spent several years finding God and hoping to become a church pastor.

Kleman worked for Edson's Begg Industrial Services as a vacuum truck driver off and on for eight years, said his former manager, Mario Lalande.

He said Kleman was a good employee for the most part, but about a year ago, Kleman bought a house and was spending so much time working on it that he wasn't responding to calls from work.

"He wasn't reliable at the end," Lalande said.

For the eight years he worked at Begg, Kleman kept to himself. His co-workers knew he was a preacher and that he volunteered at the local mission, but he didn't socialize with any of them.

The RCMP think Kleman acted alone. As many as 40 officers worked on the murder case for more than two months, 18 of them full time.

Pastor charged with wife beating

The Preacher who was arrested and detained on Saturday night for beating his wife yesterday passed through Magistrate’s Court at Wales, West Bank Demerara.
Pastor Ramanah Yankana was reported to the police and subsequently arrested for beating his wife; although the matter was initially treated as a domestic violence issue, Yankana while in custody, gave a statement implicating his wife as an assailant. Therefore both husband and wife were charged with assault.
The couple told conflicting stories in court over the reasons for their assault and each pleaded not guilty. They were both released on bail to the tune of $40,000 and were ordered to reappear in court on January 21, 2011.
Meanwhile, sources close to the family have related that the couple’s only daughter, a young girl of ten, is now refusing to return home with her parents.
Reports indicate that the young girl is apparently traumatised at the steady abuse of her mother at her father’s hands and she is not only refusing to return home but she also wants her mother to leave as well
The source indicated that Social Services has been called in to settle the matter

4 year old girl cries of pain in her private parts, guess who raped her?

Absolutely disgusting.

If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her. (Deuteronomy 22:28-29 NLT)

If within the city a man comes upon a maiden who is betrothed, and has relations with her, you shall bring them both out of the gate of the city and there stone them to death: the girl because she did not cry out for help though she was in the city, and the man because he violated his neighbors wife. (Deuteronomy 22:23-24)

As you approach a town to attack it, first offer its people terms for peace. If they accept your terms and open the gates to you, then all the people inside will serve you in forced labor. But if they refuse to make peace and prepare to fight, you must attack the town. When the LORD your God hands it over to you, kill every man in the town. But you may keep for yourselves all the women, children, livestock, and other plunder. You may enjoy the spoils of your enemies that the LORD your God has given you. (Deuteronomy 20:10-14)

Now onto the horrific but unfortunately true article:

A 39-year-old leader of a church in Port Harcourt has been arrested for allegedly defiling a four-year-old girl.
The girl’s parents are members of the pastor’s church located at Emole Street, Mile Two, in the Diobu area of the Rivers State capital.

The pastor (names withheld) was said to have lured the little girl into his office and defiled her on November 27.
Checks by Saturday Sun revealed that the girl, is a pupil of a private school that shares common premises with the randy pastor’s church.
It was gathered that the cat was let out of the bag when the little girl complained to her mother about pains in her private part. Worried over her endless complaint, the girl’s mother asked her if anybody touched her private part and she named the pastor.

Shocked that her family’s church leader could betray his calling and descend to animalistic level, the girl’s mother called in policemen from the Mile One Police Station.
Although the suspect denied the offence initially, he later confessed that he did it in the little girl’s anus.
Police sources said he told his interrogators that he deliberately avoided the girl’s private part because his big ‘manhood’ could do irreparable damage to the baby.

The suspect blamed satan for his shameless act and begged for leniency.
It was gathered that last July, the pastor, who hails from neigbouring Akwa Ibom State, was arrested and detained briefly for alleged child abuse.
He was said to have beaten his six-year-old son to near unconsciousness because the boy allegedly stole N6, 000 belonging to his church.
Angry neighbours, who witnessed the merciless beating, reported the pastor to the police and he was consequently arrested but later granted bail.
Police sources hinted that the suspect would soon face prosecution.

Now as for him beating his child, well the son certainly brought dishonour and shame to the Pastor:

For God commanded, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ (Mathew 15:4, ESV translation)

For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ (Mark 7:10 with the same translation)

Pastor threatened to kill teen girl whom he raped if she told Police

Kojo Aseidu, 52, the area pastor of Life Anointing Ministry in Debiso in the Western Region faces charges that he repeatedly raped a child in his congregation over a period of two years resulting in a three months pregnancy, has learnt.

The pastor after his dubious activities with the young lady aged 14 years (name withheld) attempted to use unorthodox means of aborting the pregnancy which resulted in serious complications for the minor thereby blowing his cover.

The girl according to sources was taken to Life Anointing Ministry for the pastor to deliver her from witchcraft some months ago. gathers that after the minor was taken to the hospital and was asked the person who inserted the concoctions into her private parts, she named the pastor.

She confessed that the pastor has been having several bouts of sex with her the very first day she set foot in the pastor's house every night and warned her not to disclosed or tell anybody about it otherwise he would kill her.

The case is currently before the Debiso Magistrate court whiles the pastor is in police custody.

Prominent Pastor charged with 112 counts of Child Pornography

CLEVELAND — Rev. Dr. Mark Griggs, pastor of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Olmsted Falls, has been charged with trading in child pornography.

Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason announced that Griggs, 48, faces 112 counts that include downloading, trading and possessing child pornography.

Griggs is one of 27 adults, along with three juveniles, charged in a six month investigation called "Operation Lake Effect." The investigation has been conducted by the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

Prosecutors charge that Griggs downloaded and saved images of children being sexually abused onto his computer. They say Griggs traded child porn images from both his home and church computers.

"Shocking...always," Mason says of a pastor being indicted on such charges.

But Griggs', attorney, Jay Milano, says his client will fight the charges.

"Reverend Griggs is going to plead and he's going to defend himself," says Milano. "He's not a child pornographer."

Milano says Rev. Griggs was on "Limewire" -- an internet file-sharing program.

"If you're downloading files from Limewire, you don't have any control of what's coming into your computer," Milano says.

Prosecutor Mason rejects the notion that Griggs made innocent mistakes.

"The amount of downloading and file sharing he has is significant," Mason says.

The church's website talks about Griggs' "commitment and love of children."

In a statement released Thursday, the Presbytery of the Western Reserve said the following about Griggs' arrest: "We do not have much information about this situation yet but the Presbytery takes allegations of misconduct very seriously and will cooperate with authorities in their investigation."

All of these cases are in Cuyahoga County, indicating how pervasive child porn can be. 34 other cases have been sent to other jurisdictions.

Prosecutor Mason says the investigation shows the need for parents to monitor what their children do online. And he also says that predators should be aware that, if they continue trading in child porn, they may well be caught.

An initial court date for Griggs and the other defendants has not been set yet.,0,6242591.story

L.A Pastor charged with sexually assaulting 14 year old girl

A pastor has been charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in his South Los Angeles congregation.

Carson resident Leonel Pelayo, 45, pastor of Iglesia Apostolica Monte de Horeb, was arrested Thursday and charged with six felony counts, including lewd acts with a minor and unlawful sexual intercourse, according to a statement from the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police said Pelayo befriended the girl in a church group. Between July and mid-August, he allegedly took her to several vacant buildings, where he sexually assaulted her, police said.

Pelayo is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 30. If convicted of the charges, he faces four years and four months in prison.

Detectives are looking for other alleged victims. Anyone with information is asked to call the LAPD's Abused Child Unit at (213) 486-0570.

Baptist Pastor jailed for sex assaults

The victim of sex abuse at the hands of a former pastor of a Norfolk church has spoken of finally being able to have closure on her ordeal after he was jailed for two years and placed on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.

Malcolm Hoare, who belonged to the King’s Lynn Baptist Fellowship, was found guilty following a trial of five counts of indecently assaulting the girl when she was aged between 13 and 15.

The offences took place about 30 years ago but the victim only recently decided to come forward about the matter after undergoing counselling as she also wanted to make sure that nothing like this happened to anyone else.

Yesterday at Norwich Crown Court, Hoare, of Whitefriars Road, King’s Lynn, appeared for sentence.

Jailing him, Judge Philip Curl accepted that he was a man of previous good character and said he had read the many references about Hoare, who also worked as a prison and police chaplain and had done a lot of charity work.

However he described him as a “manipulative and egocentric person.” who had abused his position of trust.

“She was thirteen and a half and you were 38. These offences are so serious only custody can be justified.”

Judge Curl also said he was impressed with the way the victim had given evidence in the case and said she had showed “quiet determination and courage”. “She obviously has suffered as a result of your indecent assaults on her.”

William Carter, for Hoare, said that he and his wife were both not in the best of health and Hoare helped care for his wife who had mobility problems.

“Although the only person to blame is Mr Hoare there will be those who are totally innocent who will be hit very hard by an immediate prison sentence.”

Afterwards the victim said she now felt she could fully move on with her life: “I just want people to know that I was telling the truth and encourage other victims to have the courage to come forward.”

She said she had been satisfied that he had been found guilty on five counts and said: “It was like a huge weight was lifted from me. I do feel a much stronger person and much more positive about things.”

She said she had thought originally about not doing anything about what happened but after undergoing counselling it suddenly revived all the memories about the abuse she had suffered as a young girl.

Teen girl raped, impregnated, then forced to apologize to Church

I had this storey before (original entry here: but this one has more info.

After being raped and impregnated by a fellow churchgoer more than twice her age, a 15-year-old Concord girl was forced by Trinity Baptist Church leaders to stand before the congregation to apologize before they helped whisk her out of state, according to the police.

While her pastor, Chuck Phelps, reported the alleged rape in 1997 to state youth officials, Concord police detectives were never able to find the victim. The victim said she was sent to another church member's home in Colorado, where she was home-schooled and not allowed to have contact with others her age. It wasn't until this past February that the victim, who is now 28, decided to come forward after reading about other similar cases, realizing for the first time it wasn't her fault that she had been raped, she told the police.

The police arrested Ernest Willis, 51, of Gilford, last week in connection with the case, accusing him of raping the girl twice - once in the back seat of a car he was teaching her to drive in and again after showing up at her Concord home while her parents were away. He was charged with four felonies - two counts of rape and two counts of having sex with a minor, court records show.

In a statement to the police, the victim said Willis came to her home in the summer of 1997 without warning.

"He said he wanted to talk to me about something so I let him in the house," she wrote. "He locked the door behind him and pushed me over to the couch. I had a dress on and he pulled it off. I pushed my hands against his shoulders and said 'No,' but he didn't stop."

At the time of the alleged rape, Phelps was in touch with the police, who told him to contact the Division for Children, Youth and Families.

But moving the girl out of state prevented the police from collecting evidence or a statement, the police said yesterday.

"Without a victim, it makes it very difficult to have a case," said Lt. Keith Mitchell. "That basically made the investigation very difficult."

At the time, Willis also refused to give a statement, police records show.

So for 13 years, a file on the case sat closed and marked "unresolved" at the Concord police station.

Police records do not show whether detectives asked church leaders to help them get in contact with the victim or if information was withheld.

"If somebody tried to cover this up or not cover this up, that's a separate issue," Mitchell said.

Phelps did not return a message seeking comment yesterday. He no longer works at the church.

"The leadership of Trinity Baptist Church reported this alleged crime within 24 hours of hearing the accusations on Oct. 8, 1997," said spokesman Peter Flint from a prepared statement. "We continue in our commitment to cooperate with authorities so that justice is served."

'Completely in shock'

The victim said she came forward after getting in touch with Jocelyn Zichterman, who runs an online group for victims of church abuse.

In a seven-page statement to the police, the victim recounted the moments leading up to her departure from New Hampshire.

At 14, she began babysitting for Willis, a well-known member of the church. She told the police she would often stay the night if he got home late.

Just over a year later, he offered to give her driving lessons. While in the parking lot of a Concord business, Willis asked her to pull over to switch seats, she told the police.

But instead he pulled her into the backseat and raped her, according to a statement to the police.

In the summer of 1997, Willis raped her again, this time while at her home while her mother was out, according to police records.

Angry Pastor slit's throat of little Puppy

A dog owner says her neighbor slit her dog's throat after he found the dog going after his chickens.

Christy Rose told KIRO Radio's Dori Monson that when she went to retrieve her 6-month-old Siberian Husky from her neighbor's property, he said her dog "was no more."

"I asked him if he had shot him. He said, 'No, I used a knife,'" says Rose. "From what I've seen he appears to have his throat slit three times, just enough to get the jugular vein."

Rose says her neighbor David Rea, a pastor in Tri-Cities, apologized to her, but she thinks he should be further penalized.

"They're still investigating it to see if the way Jack was killed, if there's something that can be done."

The Tri City Herald reports this is not the first time Rea has killed a dog. He reportedly shot an off-leash black lab on his property on New Year's Eve.'s-dog's-throat/

Christian Brother murder's Sister and Groom in 'honour killing'

A recently married, inter-religious couple was allegedly killed in the center of Istanbul on Saturday by the wife’s brother, news agencies reported.

The woman, a Turkish Armenian, and the man, a Muslim Turk, had reportedly married without the permission of the bride’s family.

Gönay Ö., the brother of murdered 26-year-old Sonay Vural, was sent to court Monday for allegedly killing the newlywed couple.

“They married despite us,” he said, adding that his family had opposed the marriage due to cultural differences, Doğan news agency reported.

Early media reports had said Sonay Vural was Syriac but the Hürriyet Daily News & Economic Review has learned that she was Armenian. Her funeral is expected to be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Surp Kevok Armenian Church in Istanbul.

Media reports said her family had opposed the marriage because they were Christian and the groom, a jeweler, was Muslim.

Sonay Vural’s husband, Zekeriya Vural, was buried Monday in a cemetery in the Sarıyer district, private news channel NTV reported. The couple was married 11 days earlier.

The bodies of the couple were found in a car in the Seyitömer neighborhood of Fatih district on Saturday night. An initial investigation revealed that the couple had died from bullets wounds to their heads and torsos.

Police reported that the couple had had dinner that evening with the bride’s brother, who was detained later that evening.

The murder suspect told police that his sister told him that Zekeriya Vural become a Christian and that they would have a wedding ceremony in church, Doğan news agency reported.

According to his testimony, the suspected suggested a meeting between himself and the couple to discuss the issue.

In the meeting, however, Zekeriya Vural said it was against his honor to hold a wedding ceremony in a church and reportedly swore at the suspect, leading the latter to commit the murder, according to the testimony.

“A difference of religions should not be a problem. They did not approve of the marriage because our son was a Muslim. We struggled so much for peace,” said Cemil Vural, Zekeriya Vural’s uncle.

Cemil Vural said the couple loved each other very much and refused to leave each other. Another relative of Zekeriya Vural said the couple had married secretly.

“The murder shows that they trapped our son,” said the anonymous relative, Doğan news agency reported.

Reviewing a "Muslim Honor Killing"

Now we all know the web is Christian dominant so it's hard to find what Christian's do. Though we have been lucky to find such articles about Pastor's and Christians in general killing their wives or daughter's. Let's remember honour killing appears a whopping 6 TIMES in the Bible (4 times in the OT and twice in the NT (Mathew 15:4 and Mark 7:10 to be exact)) and the Quran nor Hadith mention such brutality (of course Christians will do their utter most best to deny, probly some holy spirit malfunction).

See the link from the article. It is very surprising that the Christian Supremacist site RNB would allow an article like this that actually includes a huge blow to their anti-Muslim views:

And from there:

An attractive 16-year-old Muslim teenager was stabbed to death 23 times by her elder brother “to protect the family’s honour” after he tricked her in to meeting him at a McDonald’s burger bar car park.

Dark haired Morsal Obeidi was the daughter of an Afghan jet fighter pilot who fled the country after the Taleban came to power.

Together with his wife and five children the father settled in Hamburg, Germany in 1994 where Morsal grew up.

But although she had no problems adjusting to life in a European city her brother Ahmad (24) continually got in to trouble with police.

By the time he had tricked her in to meeting him, Ahmad had 30 convictions for assault and burglary. These also included a conviction for attacking a man with a knife after a drunken night out.

At his trial which started recently in a Hamburg Court Ahmad continually broke down in tears in front of the judge and jury where he is facing murder charges. If convicted he faces a sentence of life imprisonment.

The court was told dark-haired Morsal liked listening to Western music and wearing make up. She also wore mini-skirts and tight jeans and enjoyed going out to discos with pals she met at school.

But instead Ahmad wanted her to wear a veil and go to a mosque for daily prayers.

Although he enjoyed going out drinking with his mates Ahmad did not think it was suitable for his sister to do the same.

The so-called ‘honour killing’ was allegedly the tragic end to Ahmad’s violence against his young and pretty sister.

Public prosecutor Boris Bochnick told the court that in the months leading up to the murder Ahmad had kicked Moral several times, hit her and also threatened her with a knife.

He said: “The accused told his young sister to come to the parking lot at around 11pm (on May 15 2008), where he asked her if she worked as a prostitute. He thought her reply was ‘rubbish’ and started to viciously attack her with a knife without warning.”

Keep fit-fanatic Ahmad rammed a seven-inch long knife into his sister’s body 23 times — in her stomach, backside, arms, legs, heart and lungs. Morsal bled to death at the scene of the crime.

But a friend of her brother’s who had brought her to the McDonald’s car park witnessed the attack.

The man, named only as Mohammed, spent a short time after the murder wandering through the night before going to a police station, where he was interrogated for six hours.

Finally, racked by guilt, he told detectives it was his pal Ahmad who had killed Morsal. A few hours later armed police stood at the door of Ahmad Obeidi’s apartment. He allowed them to take him into custody without any resistence and, the court was told, later confessed to killing his own sister. One police officer said it seemed Ahmad had been waiting for them to turn up and arrest him for murder and confessed to the killing “because she had disconnected herself from the family”.

Ahmad was said to be ashamed of his sister for wearing “inappropriate” clothing, although he himself has a history of criminal behaviour.

Judge Wolfgang Backen read out his list of previous crimes: theft, several cases of actual and grievous bodily harm, stabbing a man and drink-driving.

Now a major thing here is that the brother wanted his sister to go to the mosque daily for prayer. WTF? Don't scholar's say it is highly unnecessary for women to go to the mosque except for on special occasions such as Eid, Ramadan, funeral's, lectures, business and functions/parties? Oh ya and I almost forgot one small, little detail. The brother had a long storied-history of criminal activity and unrest with the police.

You can always find major flaw's in these types of articles. Since most won't admit what Islam allow's and disallow's, it becomes important for us to help ignorant people understand with alternative aspects.

Pastor has sex with teen girl whom he was Counselling

The pastor of a Millersport church has been charged with having sex with a teenage church member he was counseling during her parents' divorce.

Daniel L. Monk, 47, of Hebron, was arrested Saturday and charged with sexual battery, a third-degree felony carrying a sentence of one to five years in prison.

Authorities charge that Monk had sex with the 16-year-old girl he was counseling at his church, Souls Harbor Pentecostal Church.

Monk and the girl arranged to meet via text messages, and the pastor admitted having sex with the girl on two occasions between April 30 and Sept. 1, said Hebron police Lt. Larry Brooks.

The girl's mother called police in late August to say that Monk was having an inappropriate relationship with her daughter, Brooks said.

Monk's bond was set at $35,000 during his arraignment yesterday in Licking County Municipal Court.

New Jersey Pastor forces teen girls to tape his affair

ELIZABETH, N.J. – A church pastor accused of forcing two teenage girls to videotape him having sex with a congregant has pleaded guilty to child endangerment.

The Rev. Moises Cotto led the Congregation of Yahweh Templo El Candelero in Newark. Prosecutors say he began an affair with Brenda Pabon in 2008 and that the two would meet at a motel in Linden.

They were accused of forcing the girls to tape their sex acts. One of the girls told a parent about it in May.

Cotto pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor. The 55-year-old East Orange resident has been held on $1.3 million bail since his arrest. He faces 14 years in prison when he is to be sentenced in January.

The 37-year-old Pabon is being held on $750,000 bail. Her case is still pending.

Top Pastor's ex-wife claims 'vicious' abuse

The ex-wife of the Atlanta mega-church pastor accused of sex abuse by four young men once claimed the exalted church leader had a "vicious and violent temper" and beat her while she was pregnant with his son.

In court documents filed during the couple's 1985 divorce, Dabara Houston, then Dabara Long, said she was terrified of Bishop Eddie Long and that she fled their home with their son "in order to ensure their safety."

Among the allegations were that Long, then an assistant minister, beat his wife using his fists with she was 7 1/2 months pregnant and that she was subjected to "cruel treatment"

Long's attorney, Craig Gillen, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Houston could not be reached, but her brother said in an interview with that he wasn't privy to his sister's abuse allegations and that she "stays pretty much to herself" these days.

"That's been a long time ago," Lonnie Houston said, adding that he last saw Long about 20 years ago. "He was a fine fellow."

Youth Pastor charged with sexual assault on 14 year old girl

Colorado Springs, Colo., police say they are worried that there may be more victims of a 21-year-old youth pastor accused of sexual assault on a 14-year-old girl.

Justin Amoroso, who was a youth pastor at Gateway Church before the charges surfaced, was arrested Wednesday at the Chapel Hills Mall and booked on a charge of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, a felony, the Colorado Springs Police Department said in a statement.

Amoroso allegedly had sex with the girl as many as 15 times at different locations around Colorado Springs, police said.

According to the arrest affidavit, the girl told police they first had sex in Amaroso's home will his wife was at work, in the 14-year-old's home while her step-mother was sleeping and inside the home of the senior pastor of Gateway Church while he and his family were away on vacation.

The arrest affidavit said the two met in August at the church and frequently communicated through Facebook and text messages.

According to the Colorado Springs Gazette, the affidavit said Amoroso and the 14-year-old girl traded some 16,000 text messages from the time they met until his arrest this week.

He frequently called her things like "babe," "gorgeous" and "sweetheart," the affidavit said.

Evangelical Pastor burns 72 year old woman for being a "Witch"

I was on the Christian-Supremacist site Religion News Blog and they had a real deceptive article on this written by Christians in Ghana. Completely ignoring the woman's torture and concentrating on the Bible's so called "wisdom".

I've heard many of these incidents but never really took the time to read up on them. Turn's out the holy spirit is quite active in Africa too.

A 72-year-old Ghanaian woman has been burned to death on suspicion of being a witch, prompting condemnation from the country's human rights groups.

Ama Hemmah was allegedly tortured into confessing she was a witch, doused in kerosene and set alight. She suffered horrific burns and died the following day.

Belief in witchcraft is relatively common in Ghana but there was widespread revulsion at the killing.

Hemmah, from Tema, was allegedly attacked by a group of five people, one of whom is an evangelical pastor, Ghana's Daily Graphic reported.

Three women and two men have been arrested. They are Nancy Nana Ama Akrofie, 46, photographer Samuel Ghunney, 50, Emelia Opoku, 37, Mary Sagoe, 52, and pastor Samuel Fletcher Sagoe, 55.

The suspects say the death was an accident and deny committing any crime. They claim they were trying to exorcise an evil spirit from the woman by rubbing anointing oil on her but it accidentally caught fire.

Augustine Gyening, assistant police commissioner, told the Daily Graphic that Sagoe saw Hemmah sitting in his sister's bedroom on 20 November and raised an alarm, attracting the attention of people in the neighbourhood.

Gyening added that the suspects claimed Hemmah was a known witch and subjected her to severe torture, compelling her to confess. He said Ghunney then asked Opoku for a gallon of kerosene and with the help of his accomplices poured it over the victim and set her ablaze.

A student nurse, Deborah Pearl Adumoah, came to Hemmah's rescue and sent her to Tema General hospital, but she died within 24 hours from severe burns.

Hemmah's son, Stephen Yeboah, 48, told the Daily Graphic: "Our mother was never a witch and had never suffered any mental disorder throughout her life, apart from exhibiting signs of forgetfulness and other symptoms of old age."

Newspaper pictures showing the woman's injuries have caused anger in Ghana. The incident has been condemned by human rights and women's activists.

Comfort Akosua Edu, of the country's Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, said: "The commission finds the action of the perpetrators of this atrocious crime as very barbaric and one that greatly dims the nation's human rights record.

"That they came and met her in their room does not in any way warrant branding her as a notorious witch who deserved to be subjected to such an ordeal."

She added: "It is very disheartening that some men of God, whose responsibility it is to help save lives, could orchestrate the killing of innocent souls, all in the name of God."

Christian man kill's Girlfriend, two kids

Something like this always happens on thanksgiving. Last year a teen girl was killed by relatives for wearing an "indecent" dress at the dinner table.

COLUMBUS -- A man was charged with murder Saturday in the stabbing deaths of his girlfriend and her two children after she didn't show up for Thanksgiving dinner or work the following day, police and relatives said.

Police said officers found the three victims with knife wounds in their Columbus apartment on Friday. Also discovered in the apartment was the suspect, who police said had self-inflicted stab wounds.

Caron E. Montgomery, 36, was arrested Saturday at Riverside Methodist Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Police said in a statement that Montgomery was charged with three counts of murder. It wasn't immediately clear whether he had an attorney.

Killed were 31-year-old Tia Hendricks, along with her children, 10-year-old Tahlia Hendricks and 2-year-old Tyron Hendricks-Montgomery.

Tia Hendricks' aunt, Anita Hayes, said Montgomery was her niece's live-in boyfriend and the boy's father. She said they had lived at the apartment since September.

"It just seems so unreal. You read about this stuff in the paper, but you don't expect it to happen in your own family," Hayes said.

Hendricks worked as a financial collector for years and grew close with friend and colleague Monique Robinson.

"We talked, like, literally every day," Robinson said. She called Hendricks twice Wednesday night with no answer and a few times on Thanksgiving to wish her a happy holiday. By Friday, when Hendricks didn't show up to work and hadn't returned a single phone call, Robinson sensed something wasn't right.

She called Hendricks' mother and they went to her apartment complex with a few relatives. They knocked on her door, and after no one answered, a maintenance worker took them to a rental office and an employee called police. Authorities found the bodies inside.

Outside the apartment complex Friday, Hendricks' older sister, Kelly Hendricks, cried and her father hugged her. Robinson held her camera and clicked through photos of Hendricks smiling at parties.

Tia Hendricks had just taken on a second job as a cashier at Burlington Coat Factory to earn extra money for Tahlia and Tyron.

"She said, `I want the kids to have a good Christmas,"' Robinson said.

Christian Actor kills Mother in the name of Christ

NEW YORK — An actor who once had a small part on "Ugly Betty" was charged Tuesday with stabbing his mother to death with a 3-foot sword in her home after a fight, police said.

Officers responding to a call of a family dispute found 55-year-old Yannick Brea kneeling in the bathroom of her Brooklyn apartment at about 2:20 a.m. She had cuts to her head and was pronounced dead at the scene, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said.

"In a bedroom was her son ... with a 3-foot sword," Kelly said.

The son, Michael Brea, 31, was arrested on charges of murder and criminal possession of a weapon. He was undergoing a psychiatric evaluation at Kings County Hospital, and police didn't know if he had an attorney. No phone number was listed at the address provided by police.

There had been a loud fight, Kelly said, but he didn't know what caused the altercation.

Neighbors told reporters they could hear screams outside and inside the building in the Prospect Heights neighborhood.

"I heard this wild screaming," Gregory Clare, who lived in the building, told the Daily News of New York. He said he heard screams of "'Repent, repent, sinner, sinner,' over and over again," and "'You never accepted Jesus.'"

Police also said a Bible was found in the apartment, but Kelly wasn't sure where.

Michael Brea has no prior arrests, and Kelly was not sure if he had a psychiatric history. No previous domestic violence incidents had been reported at the home, police said.

Brea once had a bit part on ABC's now-canceled show "Ugly Betty."

"I had just dozed off to go to sleep and then I woke up to somebody screaming," neighbor Bernard Bent told WPIX-TV. "It sounded like lady's voice and after a while I just didn't hear the woman's voice again."

Citing website, WPIX said Brea had appeared as a dancer in film "Step Up 3-D".

He appeared in a 2009 episode of "Ugly Betty," the website said.

"I remember growing up and my mother was always feeding people who were less fortunate," Brea is quoted as saying on "My parents raised me to always share and to give charity in the name of God."

Christianofascist site Religion News Blog continues attacking Muslims

Yeah the Islam-hating Christian site is at it again. Attacking the Quran by linking to the "scholarly" Answering Islam site.

From their front page:

Muslim children are being taught how to chop off thieves hands and that Jews are plotting to take over the world at a network of Islamic schools, it has been disclosed. [Our view: Remember, Muslims- who claim that Islam is a 'religion of peace' get terribly upset at a few cartoons depicting their prophet. But civilized people should strongly object to -- and stop -- the teaching of barbaric practices,, bigotry, anti-Semitism and other expressions of hatred on the part of Muslims.].

Remember Religion News Blog is a professional and popular site. Sad they go to such levels to try and convince people Muslims aren't civilized and we totally engage in acts that extremists commit.

I'd like to remind RNB that Christians themselves get upset at jesus cartoons, abortion doctors, soldiers, Christian women (those who don't submit silently to men). See the following:

Later on in the front page:

An Afghan Christian, detained for months for allegedly converting to Christianity from Islam, could face trial as early as next week- and could face a potential death penalty, officials said Sunday.

Said Musa was arrested by Afghan Interior Ministry intelligence authorities near the German Embassy in Kabul because of the allegations, said Qamaruddin Shenwari, director of the Kabul cout's north zone.

QT: If there is 'no compulsion in religion', as Muslims claim, why should you not allow someone to convert away from Islam?

The following are links that connect to answering Islam which they put.

Quran contradiction: Compel them or not?
The punishment from apostasy?

Now see how they say we Muslims claim there is no compulsion in religion. The thing is we don't say that. We Muslims say alot of things (especially us Pakistani's). God's word, the Quran says there is no compulsion.
Notice how they're trying to convince Muslims hold the same view as those extremists and those misguided Muslim states.

I don't need to bring sources, cause it should be pretty obious what Islam says, but there is NO PUNISHMENT for apostasy as well as Muslims cannot force anyone to convert. That guidance come's from God ALONE to those whom deserve it.

On the other hand, it's funny how RNB hasn't ever mentioned numerous Christian apostates coming to Islam (especially in Egypt) have had an unfortunate fate. For example I posted a few days ago (see here how a young Christian found guidance from God and came to Islam but was killed for honour by her brother. Similar examples also include Wafa Constatine who researched Islam and converted but was killed by her Pastor husband.

Christian University silent on teen woman's suicide

Hmmm rape, women and the bible? Where have I ever seen this before? Oh ya the bible!

(Deuteronomy 22:28-29 NLT)

"If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her."

(Deuteronomy 21:10-14 NAB)

"When you go out to war against your enemies and the LORD, your God, delivers them into your hand, so that you take captives, if you see a comely woman among the captives and become so enamored of her that you wish to have her as wife, you may take her home to your house. But before she may live there, she must shave her head and pare her nails and lay aside her captive's garb. After she has mourned her father and mother for a full month, you may have relations with her, and you shall be her husband and she shall be your wife. However, if later on you lose your liking for her, you shall give her her freedom, if she wishes it; but you shall not sell her or enslave her, since she was married to you under compulsion."

"Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that has known a man by sleeping with him." (Numbers 31:17).

A 19-year-old Northbrook woman died of an apparent suicide nine days after telling University of Notre Dame police that she had been sexually attacked by a football player in a dorm room, the Tribune has learned.

Elizabeth "Lizzy" Seeberg, a freshman at neighboring St. Mary's College who had battled depression, apparently overdosed on prescription medication in her own room during the third week of classes in September. The player, meanwhile, has remained on the field.

More than two months later, Notre Dame refuses to publicly acknowledge the case, and what actions university officials have taken to investigate her allegation remain largely unknown.

Campus authorities did not tell the St. Joseph County Police Department investigating Seeberg's death about her report of a sexual attack, county officials said. Nor did they refer the case to the county's special victims unit, which was established to handle sex offenses, according to prosecutors.,0,3185959.story?track=rss

Christian brother kill's sister for converting to Islam

From 2 years ago. It highlightes the torture Muslim women go through by Christians (Muslim women are frequently kidnapped and raped though you never here this in the West) in Egypt. It only add's to the persecution of apostate women, including Wafa Constatine who was brutally murdered by her abusive husband who was a top Christian leader in egypt because she converted to Islam

Earlier on in the week I reported on the case of Mariam Atef Khilla an Egyptian Coptic Christian who had converted to Islam three years earlier and married a Muslim man. Her brother Rami Atef Khella tried to convince her unsuccessfully to divorce her Muslim husband . When she refused Rami Atef Khella broke into her Cairo apartment and sprayed his sister and her family with gun-fire.In the resulting carnage Ahmed Saleh, Mariam’s husband was killed.

Ahmed Saleh’s funeral was conducted today and his wife Mariam Atef Khilla and daughter 18-month daughter Nora remain hospitalised in a serious condition:

“Hundreds lined up for the funeral of a Muslim man killed by his Christian brother-in-law, which was held amid tight security Wednesday night.

Security forces shut off the street from both ends and ordered the closure of all the shops lining the funeral’s pathway.

Ahmed Saleh was killed by his wife’s brother Rami Atef Khella, 28, who was angered by his sister’s conversion to Islam three years earlier. Khella also shot his sister, Miriam, 25, and the couple’s 18-month daughter, Nora, who are in critical condition in the hospital.

The shooting occurred in the suburb of Al-Ameriya Tuesday when Khella cut the electricity of Ibrahim Abdulrahman street causing a blackout before descending on the couple’s apartment and opening fire on the family.

Khella was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday morning and confessed to the killing. He stated that his father and uncle did not participate in the actual crime, but it was his uncle, Raafat Khella, who drove him away from the scene after waiting for him in a car at the end of the road.

The accused told police that he had purchased the gun used in the crime after failing to convince his sister to divorce Saleh.

AFP had reported that “Khella had been searching for his sister for about two years, after she left her home province with her Muslim husband and came to Cairo.”

Saleh’s father told Al-Dostour newspaper, “I want justice for my son because he did nothing wrong. All he was guilty of was marrying the woman he loved.”

He added that after his son married Miriam her family threatened to kill them which caused him to report the affair to the state security apparatus, which made Miriam’s family sign an affidavit to not come near her or her husband.”

Evangelical Pastor arrested for sexually abusing 13 girls

South Carolina Pastor arrested for murder

Former Independence Pastor David Love was arrested Tuesday afternoon in South Carolina.

He is being held in a Spartanburg, S.C., jail pending an extradition hearing. A jail employee in Spartanburg said Love was named in a murder warrant out of Missouri.

Love was pastor of the church attended by Randy E. Stone, an Independence insurance salesman slain in late March. Authorities have not linked his arrest to the case.

Love resigned as pastor of New Hope Baptist Church earlier this year after a search warrant was executed as part of the investigation into Stone’s death.

Stone, father of two children, was killed in March inside his office near 35th Street and Noland Road in Independence.

Pastor guilty in Stalking Abortion Doctor's

CBS/AP) A North Carolina pastor was found guilty of violating a state law that prohibits residential picketing for stalking a doctor who performs abortions. He was sentenced to 24 months probation and plans to appeal, reports WSOC-TV in Charlotte.

Reverend Phillip "Flip" Benham, 62, director of the anti-abortion group Operation Save America, had posted wild west-style "Wanted" posters which gave doctors' names and home addresses. Benham said the First Amendment gave him the right to do this.

"It doesn't say 'Wanted Dead or Alive' but the implications are clearly there," said one doctor, who, fearing for his life, asked to remain anonymous in an interview with CBS News Correspondent Michelle Miller last month.

"I am always looking over my shoulder. I know they know my car. They know my face. They've been to my house. They've put these posters in my neighborhood. So yeah, I look over my shoulder."

Prosecutors said the posters amounted to advocating violence against the doctors, like putting a target on the doctor's back.

For his part, WSOC-TV reports that Benham denied it was a call for murder, saying, "Nobody has gone and killed because [he or she] saw a poster. That is most absurd and logical fallacy that there possibly could be."

However, Miller reports that in the 1990s similar fliers were distributed in other cities and were followed by a series of murders. Pensacola, Fla., Doctor David Gunn and Dr. George Patterson of Alabama were shot and killed in 1993. Dr. John Britton was murdered a year later in Florida. All were targets on Wanted posters.

Dr. George Tiller survived an assassination attempt in Wichita in 1993. He was killed in his church last year.

Federal law makes it a crime to use force, or even the threat of force, to prevent people from accessing clinics. In 2002, a U.S. Appeals Court ruled that Wanted posters similar to these were a violation of that law.

The laughable "banana" Pastor accused of sex attack

This storey, from the Pastor side is really humerous and very gross, not to mention quite a creative way to get out of charges being laid.

A CHURCH pastor accused of sexually assaulting a schoolgirl told a jury today: "It was a banana in my pocket."

David Morris, 60, said the 12-year-old could have mistaken the fruit for his penis as he sat next to her during an English lesson.

The pastor, at Carmarthen Evangelical Church in west Wales, said he was in the habit of putting a banana in his pocket and it was possible the youngster had accidentally felt it.

Prosecutor Geraint Walters QC told the court: "He said one thing he would do from time to time was to carry a banana in his trouser pocket.

"He said it's possible that is what the girl mistook for his erect penis."

The victim, now 26, alleges that Morris placed her hand on his crotch area during a private tutoring lesson.

Mr Walters said Morris became "quite tactile and touchy" during the classes.

He said: "It progressed to tickling on her hand, arm and up her back."

Swansea Crown Court heard he then took her hand and placed it on his groin where she felt a lump.

The alleged victim and her fiancé arranged to meet Morris years later at a motorway service station to confront him about the allegations.

She said: "He arrived and went to sit down. He stood up and took a banana out of his pocket and put it down on the table."

She told jurors that Morris then told her: "This is what you must have felt."

The woman told the court that on the day of the alleged assault she told her mother about it but nothing was done apart from her tutoring being stopped.

She said her family's relationship with Morris continued and that her mother "absolutely adored him".

The woman also claimed that on a different occasion when she was aged 12 or 13 Morris took her and her sister underwear shopping in Swansea after buying them cider at a pub.

Morris, of Llanpumsaint, Carmarthenshire, denies indecently assaulting the girl between December 1995 and December 1996.

The trial continues.

Gun Shop owning Pastor assaulted and threatened neighbor

Oct. 13--The pastor of a Selma church has been charged with threatening and assaulting his neighbor.

John Edgar "Eddie" Jordan, 52, of 4 Avon Court, Smithfield, leads Faith Baptist Church on Ricks Road in Selma. He also owns Second Amen-ment Gun Shop in Smithfield. According to his arrest warrant, Jordan went to his neighbor's home on Sept. 21, told him "I'm going to whoop your g--d--- a--" and later hit him in the face.

"He is a pastor but doesn't talk like a pastor should," the neighbor, Christopher Scott Andrews, said in his complaint. Andrews added that his 12-year-old son witnessed the incident.

So I'm guessing the bullets in your house and the face punching is how a Pstor should act?

Jordan said Thursday that the charges are false and that he has hired a lawyer to fight them, but he declined to comment further. Andrews also wouldn't speak about the incident, but he and other neighbors have complained that stray bullets from Jordan's shooting range have hit their properties. Three times this year, the Johnston County Sheriff's Office has received calls about the shooting range on Condary Road -- off of U.S. 301 between Selma and Micro.

In his complaint, Andrews wrote that after Jordan made the profane threat and "swung and missed me and stumbled," he invited the pastor into his home to show him where bullets had hit the house in January. "Had the bullet went through the wall, it would have hit my wife," Andrews said in his complaint. Then, Andrews said, he asked Jordan to leave, and that's when the pastor hit him.

Jordan is free on $1,000 bond. He is due in court on Oct. 19.

Jordan's wife, Vickie, said the family, after the first complaint, built berms to prevent stray bullets from leaving the shooting range.

Shooting on private property is legal in Johnston County as long as bullets don't hit homes or people, though County Commissioners say they might revisit the law after hearing complaints from Condary Road residents.

Neighbors also hope zoning rules might put a stop to the target shooting. Because the range sometimes hosts paid shooting classes, neighbors argue that it's a business operating illegally in a residential zone.

But relief under zoning rules is unlikely, said Selma planning director Ryan Simons. Even if the shooting range met the definition of a business, it would be grandfathered in under Selma's zoning rules, since the range was in operation when the town expanded its planning jurisdiction to include Condary Road this summer. That's the case even if the range was in violation of county zoning rules at the time.

"Whether it conforms or not, it's allowed to remain," Simons said.

In the county's jurisdiction, commercial shooting operations require a permit, and the Jordans' range did not have one, said Berry Gray, county planning director.

"We believe it to be a civil matter -- an issue that needs to be handled between the two property owners," Simons added.

Senior Christian Cleric compares supporters of women bishops to Nazi's

Just to let the Protestant's know, the Church of England is well understood to be reformed.

The Right Rev Wallace Benn, the Bishop of Lewes, told the Reform conference of conservative Anglicans: “I feel very much increasingly that we’re in January of 1939. We need to be aware that there is real serious warfare just round the corner.”

His analogy angered Jewish groups as it was in that month that Hitler outlined his intent to kill Europe’s Jews.

James Smith, chairman of the Holocaust Centre, said the comparison “belittles both the scale of the suffering the Nazis caused and the scale of the moral challenge they represented”.

He added: “The Christian Church, with the exception of a few brave clerics, abjectly failed to respond appropriately to the Holocaust at the time, and has yet to fully address the implications of that failure.”

Sally Barnes, of the campaign group Women and the Church, said: “I am really sorry that a man who is a Christian is talking in these terms.”

Bishop Benn later attempted to clarify his remarks and said: “I was thinking in terms of the storm clouds being on the horizon.”

He said he intended his remarks to be Churchillian rather than thinking of Hitler.

The issue of women bishops continues to drive divisions within the Church of England but it is not due to be debated by its council until next year.

Now where in the Bible does it say women cannot take part in leadership?

"I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent." (1 Timothy 2:12 NIV Translation)

Legion Branch in Canada shut down over KKK costume

It's funny how the Police aren't going to press charges. Are we again sucking up to Christianity? Only shows how more Christian the west gets.

The Royal Canadian Legion branch in Campbellford, Ont., has been closed temporarily as officials investigate why two men attended a Halloween party there dressed as a member of the Ku Klux Klan and his black prisoner.

One of the two men, who are not from Campbellford, arrived at the party Saturday night wearing white robes and a cone-shaped headpiece, with a Confederate flag draped across his shoulders.

He was leading the other man -- who had full blackface makeup and was wearing a red and blue plaid shirt -- around by a rope.

Legion officials have shut down Branch 103 pending the investigation.

"We are very sorry that this happened," Dave Gordon of the Royal Canadian Legion told CTV News. "We apologize to the public."

Earlier Wednesday, police said they do not intend to lay charges in connection with the incident.

Const. Chris Dewsbury of the Northumberland OPP said police began to look into the situation after receiving a complaint following the party.

He said an officer is still investigating but police don't expect to press charges.

"At the present time it would appear this was simply a case of poor judgment into the selection of a Halloween costume and there is no evidence to suggest a criminal offence has taken place," Dewsbury told

He said the people wearing the costume did not intend it as a racist gesture and added that wearing the costume does not constitute a hate crime. The pair won a prize for the costume.

Corey Crowley, the son of the man who wore the white robes, said his father is "not a racist, obviously not.

"It was just a costume for Halloween," Crowley told CTV News. "People dress up like axe murderers every day. So I didn't think it was that big of a deal."

Mayor Hector MacMillan called the incident "unfortunate" and said "it should not have happened."

Joy Herrington, president of the Campbellford Legion, issued an apology on Tuesday for the incident.

"As president of Branch 103 Campbellford, of the Royal Canadian Legion, I humbly apologize to all those offended by the events that took place at our Halloween Party," she said in a statement.

"The events in no way reflect the views of the Royal Canadian Legion, or its members. Those responsible have been spoken to."

Mark Andrade, who owns a restaurant in Campbellford, said he was disgusted by the costume and upset that the Legion allowed it -- and even awarded a prize to the men.

But Andrade, who is black, told CTV News the incident is not indicative of the community.

"Everybody in this community has expressed nothing but outrage on the same level, if not more so, than I have myself."

Germany's Christian government scapegoats Muslims again

Yep we've seen multiple Christian parties targeting Muslim's for the country's economy and whatever else. It doesn't stop.

Berlin - German Family Minister Kristina Schroeder on Tuesday criticized Muslim youths for displaying hostility towards Germans.

'Such abuse is unfortunately commonplace amongst youths in certain areas - in the school yard, but also in the underground,' Schroeder told daily tabloid Bild.

'We are dealing with fundamentally hostile attitudes towards other groups - particularly against Germans and Christians,' the minister continued, adding, 'We need to act as decisively against this as against xenophobia.'

Her comments come amid a fierce debate currently taking place in Germany about the integration of the country's 4 million Muslims, the majority of whom are of Turkish origin.

Schroeder emphasised that she was criticizing a small group of Muslim youths, and said their hostile behaviour was down to 'poor education and bad friends, as well as macho norms and family violence.'

She also announced plans to set up additional facilities to help children learn to integrate and speak German at 4,000 nurseries across the country.

In recent weeks the family minister also drew attention to the fact that ethnic German children were being bullied in schools that had a high quotient of pupils from immigrant backgrounds.

Just a quick fact, stats show only 10% of Turks actually practice Islam. Though no one really cares.

Rebuttal to Answering Islam's article

I've witnessed the owner of Answering Islam's frequent fit's on numerous blogs and debates. Sam Shamoun's childish behaviour give's the immediate conclusion there must be multiple faults of his knoweledge on the Islamic religion.

What I want to focus on is Sam's stance on God killing people and Muslim armies killing people as he seem's to be getting the two confused. For example take a look at this quote from Sam:

Zaatari tries to justify Allah’s complete destruction of peoples and places on the grounds that he did so through natural disasters! In other words, Zaatari finds it perfectly acceptable for Allah to kill women and children by flood, winds, earthquakes, or fire and brimstone from the sky, so long as he doesn’t use armies to do it! Talk about being inconsistent and having a double standard.

Well a simple minded answer is God knows and takes life away from anything. Comparing God's acts to the acts of Muslim armies is not comparable. Let's see from a Christian perspective, Jesus causes earthquakes and floods that kill women and children. Right here we see a double standard from Sam Shamoun. As believers from all religin's should accept, we must agree with God on his every move.

He then quotes from the Quran:

"So they journeyed on till when they met a young boy; he slew him. Moses said, ‘What! hast thou slain an innocent person without his having slain anyone! Surely, thou hast done a hideous thing’ ... ‘And as for the youth, his parents were believers, and we feared lest on growing up he should involve them into trouble through rebellion and disbelief;’" S. 18:74, 80 Sher Ali

Then says:

Thus, these Quranic texts substantiate the hadith that Muslims can kill children on the mere suspicion that such children may grow up to be unbelievers! In fact, this very hadith mentions the name Khadir which is the name given to this very same person in Surah 18 who killed the innocent child!

Now we need to understand you cannot take parts of the Quran and make a conclusion out of it. This does not relate to Muslims today, nor did it relate to Muslims at Moses' time. Here Moses, a well known Prophet of God in all Abrahamic religions, approved the murder of a soon-to-be-guilty boy. He knew the boy was going to have a dark future. Maybe he'd be a Hitler or leader of a Taliban group? God knows how everyone's life will be like, he knew the boy would rebel against Islam so Moses had to kill him. In his commentary, Maulana Muhammed Ali writes:

The interpretation of the three incidents shows a manifestation of Divine wisdom
in what takes place in the everyday life of man. Divine laws, as manifested in
nature, are really working towards ultimate good, though sometimes they may appear to
the outward eye to be working to the detriment of somebody. The beneficent hand of
Allåh that works in nature is always directing humanity to the goal of great good, though that goal must necessarily be reached with apparent loss. Sometimes the loss is only apparent, as in the case of making a hole in the boat; there was no real loss, but the apparent loss served a great purpose and brought much benefit to the owner. The second instance is that in which there is real loss to a person, but it is for the good of humanity at large, for life must be sacrificed for the ultimate good of humanity. The third instance shows that, for the good of humanity, deeds must be done which bring no immediate reward, and that good done by one generation is not devoid of benefit to the next. Moses himself had, in fact, to undergo the experience of his teacher, and the incidents seem no more than prophetic allegories of Moses’ own life-work. Just as the scuttling of a boat causes apprehension to the safety of its occupants, Moses had to lead his people to a place where they thought they had only been brought to be drowned; but their safe passage through the sea showed that it was for their good. Then he had to order his men to fight against an iniquitous people and to put them to death, but he was not shedding human blood to no purpose, for it was really a step towards the evolution of a better race. And finally, his devoting his own life to the Israelites, descendants of a righteous man, corresponded to his teacher’s building the wall for the orphans without
claiming recompense. Read in this light, the narration is clearly an Ascension of Moses, foreshadowing the great events which were to befall him.

To try and gain some mometum, Sam brags:

Furthermore, this text supports the point I had made in my paper. It confirms the principle that God can justifiably kill even children on the basis of how they would turn out in the future. God who perfectly knows all things, especially future events, knows that even children grow up to be rebel sinners who defy his commands and acts of mercy.

No, it does not "confirm" God can kill children. Nowhere else does such an act like this occur in the Quran. This obviously hints this was something special. We need to read from that historical perspective, what was happening at that time to understand the entire context. However I wonder is Sam realises that these accidents and natural disasters of today relate to God killing in verse 18:64? Are they the same or different? Either way God's commandments take lives away.

The rest he writes I don't really care about, except his piece on if babies will go to heaven or hell is really ridiculous. Quran 67:2 outright confirm's deeds are needed to judge. All scholar's admit babies and younger children are heaven bound if they die. Now one can bring up that argument of the boy in verse 18:64 again. My only response is we can already tell there was somthing special behind this. We all know some things in the Quran are not for us to know about, since they took place before Muhammed (pbuh).

Finally Mr. Shamoun says:

Moreover, Zaatari’s claim that the death of the women and children is not too painful, but instant, contradicts the Quran:

Such is the seizing of thy Lord, when He seizes the cities that are evildoing; surely His seizing IS PAINFUL, TERRIBLE. S. 11:102 Arberry

Once again we have clear signs historical persepectives are being misplaced. Let's read the previous 2 verses and one after 11:102:

[11:100] This is news from the past communities that we narrate to you. Some are still standing, and some have vanished.

[11:101] We never wronged them; they wronged their own souls. Their gods, whom they invoked beside GOD, could not help them in the least when the judgment of your Lord came. In fact, they only ensured their doom.

[11:103] This should be a lesson for those who fear the retribution of the Hereafter. That is a day when all the people will be summoned - a day to be witnessed.

So we see 11:102 was meant for the idol worshippers and those who observed un-Islamic practices. Those we times where Prophet after Prophet was sent and people were too ignorant to recognize the truth. BTW it doesn't necessarily mean their death was physically painful (I'm speaking of the women and the children) like how Sam put it. If we look outside the box, terrible and painful could've meant the economy, foreign relations etc. Look today when natural disasters happen, yes sure people get affected but not always physically. Think of other factor's that shape up a country or community.

Saddam Hussein's Christian deputy guilty for Crimes against Humanity

Tariq Aziz, one of Saddam Hussein's most prominent deputies and Iraq's former foreign minister, was sentenced to death for his role in the persecution, torture and killing of Shiite Islamist party members by the former regime.

The verdicts against Mr. Aziz and other former senior officials—including Mr. Hussein's secretary Abed Hamoud—were handed down in Baghdad by the Supreme Iraqi Criminal Tribunal, the successor to the Iraqi Special Tribunal, which was established by the U.S. in the aftermath of the 2003 invasion to try leading members of the Hussein regime for crimes against humanity.

Mr. Aziz was a member of the Revolutionary Command Council, a committee of senior Baath Party officials headed by Mr. Hussein, which issued decrees that led to the brutal killing and torture of thousands of members of then-banned Shiite parties and their familes. Those groups including current Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's Islamic Dawa Party. Dawa leaders say the regime executed nearly 250,000 of their partisans and supporters, including the killing of the party's founder and his sister in 1980.

Mr. Aziz was the only Christian among the Sunni Baath Party leadership. The Vatican on Tuesday urged Iraq to commute the death sentence.

Several international human-rights groups have criticized the procedures and questioned the impartiality of the court, the same chamber that sent Mr. Hussein to the gallows almost four years ago.

A senior member of the special court said Mr. Aziz's place on the council was enough to convict him of a role in the crimes. "He was at [the] helm of power," said the court official.

The official said the majority of the more than 1,200 plaintiffs, as well as most of the witnesses in the case, were connected to Dawa, an Islamist party founded in Iraq in 1957 and later supported by Iran during its opposition to Mr. Hussein's regime. The ailing 74-year-old Mr. Aziz often appeared in court in his pajamas—a shadow of his former urbane and cigar-chomping self.

He already had received prison sentences in connection with other cases heard by the same court.

Mr. Aziz's lead attorney and family, who reside in Amman, Jordan, said the court decision was "cruel," "hasty" and "politically motivated."

Mr. Aziz's son, Ziad Tariq Aziz, said he last spoke to his father by telephone on Sunday for three minutes and that he mentioned nothing about an impending decision. "He asked me to send him tea, underwear, eggs and cigarettes," said the son.

The attorney, Badie Izzat, who hasn't been to Iraq since 2007 and advises his client through court-appointed counsel in Baghdad, said he was unaware that a verdict would be delivered Tuesday. "It was a shock for everyone," he said.

Mr. Aziz and the other defendants have one month to appeal the verdict.

Another article hits the spot:

(Reuters) - Iraq's high tribunal Tuesday passed a death sentence on Tareq Aziz, once the international face of dictator Saddam Hussein's government, over the persecution of Islamic parties, the court said.

The death sentence was the first to be handed down to Aziz, who was well known in foreign capitals and at the United Nations before Saddam's downfall. He rose to prominence at the time of Iraq's invasion of Kuwait and the 1991 Gulf War, when he was foreign minister.

"The court today issued the death sentence on Tareq Aziz and four others for committing crimes against humanity. The charge of elimination of religious parties was classified as crimes against humanity," Judge Mohammed Abdul-Sahib, a spokesman of the Iraqi High Tribunal, told Reuters.

"The nature of the crimes is willful killing, torture and the enforced disappearance of persons."

Last year, Aziz was sentenced to 15 years in prison for his part in the killings of dozens of merchants in 1992 and to a further seven years for his role in the forced displacement of Kurds from northern Iraq during Saddam's rule.

He surrendered to invading U.S. forces in April 2003 but was handed over to Iraqi prison authorities this year. In August he accused U.S. President Barack Obama in a jailhouse interview with Britain's Guardian newspaper of "leaving Iraq to the wolves" because of U.S. plans to withdraw.

Aziz's Amman-based lawyer, Badie Arif, said the decision was politically motivated.

"It is a political verdict and not legal. He (Aziz) expected that, especially when the U.S. administration handed him over to the Iraqi government," Arif told Reuters by telephone from Amman.

The Vatican urged Iraqi authorities not to carry out the death sentence against Aziz, a Christian. This, the Vatican spokesman said in a statement, would help reconciliation, peace and justice.

The Vatican did not rule out the possibility of making a humanitarian intervention on behalf of Aziz, but said this would be done through diplomatic channels, the spokesman added.

Sahib said Aziz and four other defendants in the case who were also sentenced to death were expected to appeal against the decision. Iraqi law provides for an automatic appeal for all death-sentence and life-imprisonment cases, even if the defendants do not lodge an appeal themselves.

The four other defendants sentenced to death were former interior minister and intelligence chief, Sadoun Shakir, Abed Hamoud, a former private secretary to Saddam, Saddam's half brother Sabawi Ibrahim al-Hasan and, a former top Baath party official, Abdul Ghani Abdul Ghafour.

An official in the court's media office said the evidence provided to court and the statements of witnesses had proved sufficient to convict them.

During Saddam's rule, only the Baath party was allowed to exist. The Sunni dictator crushed attempts to establish rival political organizations, and in particular carried out constant campaigns against Islamic parties.

Their leaders were assassinated, imprisoned or forced into exile. One of his main targets was the Islamic Dawa party of current Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, a Shi'ite Muslim.
